As an infant, donor hero Luka gave Jasper a second chance at life after Jasper experienced heart failure. Recently, their families met for the first time, sharing a special connection made possible through the gift of life.

Then came a moment they will never forget. Luka’s family had the opportunity to hear his heartbeat again through Jasper, a powerful reminder that Luka’s gift continues to make a difference and that his legacy lives on through the lives he saved.

Four years after receiving a lifesaving liver transplant, Victoria met the family of her donor, Manuel, sharing words that capture the extraordinary impact of his gift: “I really didn't think I was gonna live, and now I get to thrive because of you.”

Every donor has a story. Every gift creates a legacy. And every transplant is a reminder of what’s possible when someone says yes to donation.

Tissue Donor Hero Eddie Ramirez spent his life in service to others. As a firefighter and longtime El Paso community member, Eddie found purpose in showing up for the people around him and lending a helping hand. 💙💚

His wife, Vanessa, remembers Eddie as someone who was silly and never missed an opportunity to make people laugh. Each year, she honors his memory through Eight for Eddie, an 8K inspired by something Eddie loved: staying active and giving back to his community.

Today is officially GOLA launch day! 🎉 We’re excited to announce that Southwest Transplant Alliance and Texas Organ Sharing Alliance have joined together as Gift of Life Alliance (GOLA).

For more than 50 years, Southwest Transplant Alliance and Texas Organ Sharing Alliance have been honored to serve donor families, transplant recipients, hospital partners, and communities across Texas. GOLA brings together the experience, expertise, and resources of two organizations united by one purpose: to transform lives through the gift of donation.

As we begin this new chapter, this page will soon become Gift of Life Alliance. While the name and brand are changing, the legacy of Southwest Transplant Alliance continues as part of GOLA and we’re excited to carry that legacy forward into what comes next.

We are extremely excited and proud to share that the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare Services has approved the full merger of Southwest Transplant Alliance and Texas Organ Sharing Alliance into one organ procurement organization – the Gift of Life Alliance.

By coming together, we have an extraordinary opportunity to strengthen organ donation for over 19 million Texans and across so many Texas communities we have the privilege serving: from Dallas to San Antonio, from Austin to El Paso, from the Coastal Bend and the Rio Grande Valley to Waco, from Tyler to Midland-Odessa, and beyond. Together, we will work with and within each community to transform more lives through the gift of donation.

Reaching this moment has stretched us as organizations, required immense patience and perseverance, and demanded an incredible amount of time and energy from our teams and our governing boards, making this approval especially meaningful.

We're incredibly grateful to our employees, boards, hospital partners, donor families, transplant partners, communities, and everyone who has supported us throughout this journey.
