Happy Feast Day of Saint Teresa of Avila! 🌹✨

Today, as we honor the great Doctor of the Church, contemplative, and reformer, Saint Teresa of Avila, we are invited to look at a secret behind her profound spiritual life: her quiet, unshakeable devotion to Saint Joseph.

When Teresa suffered a devastating illness that left her paralyzed and presumed dead, she turned to Saint Joseph as her advocate and guardian. He did not just heal her body—he walked with her through every trial, teaching her how to pray and draw closer to Christ.

In her Autobiography, Saint Teresa leaves us with these beautiful words:

"If anyone cannot find a master to teach him how to pray, let him take this glorious saint as his master and he will not go astray."

🌿 Saint Joseph & The Spirituality of Accompaniment
What does Saint Teresa’s devotion teach us about accompaniment today?

Scripture records not a single word spoken by Saint Joseph. Yet, his whole life was a testimony of presence, protection, and silent action:

🚶‍♂️ He walked alongside Mary and Jesus through uncertainty—fleeing to Egypt in the night and making a humble home in Nazareth.

🤝 He journeyed in the background, content to let the light shine on Jesus while faithfully doing the Father’s will step by step.

🙏 He accompanied Saint Teresa centuries later, showing up in her deepest moments of darkness, paralysis, and doubt to guide her soul.

True spiritual accompaniment doesn't always require loud declarations or grand gestures. Like Saint Joseph, it means showing up quietly in someone’s life, bearing their burdens, walking beside them in their paralysis or pain, and gently pointing them toward Christ.

Saint Teresa reminds us that we never have to walk the spiritual journey alone. God sends us companions—both in Heaven and on Earth—to direct our prayers, keep us steady, and walk us home.

✨ Reflection for Today:

Is there someone in your life going through a silent struggle who needs you to "walk with them" like St. Joseph?

Have you asked St. Joseph to be your master of prayer when you feel lost or silent before God?

Saint Teresa of Avila, pray for us!

Saint Joseph, Guardian of the Redeemer and faithful companion, pray for us! 🙏❤️

This was created by my 11 year old daughter. She has been serving on mission trips since she was in the womb! This summer she helped to rebuild stairs and a deck that were rotting and falling down. I hope her story inspires you!

“Do not have any anxiety about the future. Leave everything in God’s hands for he will take care of you.”
— St. John the Baptist de La Salle

So many of us carry an overwhelming weight on our shoulders—worrying about tomorrow, stressing over decisions, and feeling consumed by the unknown. Mental fatigue and anxiety often come from trying to control every detail of a future we cannot see.

St. John the Baptist de La Salle reminds us that peace begins when we stop holding on so tightly.

Surrendering isn't giving up or ignoring our struggles—it is choosing to rest in the trust that God is already present in your tomorrows. When you surrender your worries, fears, and doubts, you make room for God’s quiet peace to steady your heart today.

Take a deep breath. Release what you cannot control, and let God handle what lies ahead. You are in good hands. 🙏✨

"You will never be happy if your happiness depends on getting solely what you want. Change the focus, get a new center, will what God wills, and your joy no man shall take from you." — Blessed Fulton Sheen

True joy isn't found in self-centered success—it's found in shifting our focus outward, centering our hearts on God's divine plan, and walking together in faith.

This same principle is the foundation of accompaniment. Youth ministry isn't just about organizing events or fulfilling our own plans; it’s about shifting our center from programs to people. When adult mentors and young leaders walk alongside one another, discern God's will together, and serve side by side, they discover a joy that transforms their entire parish community.

"Father, I am seeking; I am hesitant and uncertain, but will you, O God, watch over each step of mine and guide me." — Saint Augustine

Seeking. Hesitant. Uncertain.

Every young person on a mission trip takes steps of faith—and every step requires someone to watch over, guide, and walk alongside them. That is the heart of accompaniment.

When our young people return home from a transformative mission week, they shouldn't have to navigate their next steps alone.

Through The Drexel Project (an initiative of NFCYM), we invite your parish to build a lasting culture of faith and service through The Return from Emmaus Accompaniment Project. Rather than a one-time volunteer event, this program equips an intergenerational team of high school teens and adult mentors to walk through a proven Design – Serve – Reflect framework together.

Why Bring This to Your Parish?

Saint of the Day: Saint John Leonardi (Feast Day: October 9) 🕯️✨
"I am only one person! Why should I do anything? What good would it do?"

Have you ever caught yourself asking those exact questions? It can be easy to feel overwhelmed by the world's problems and wonder if our small efforts even matter.

Saint John Leonardi answered that question with his entire life.

After becoming a priest, he poured his heart into ministering to those who needed it most—visiting the sick in hospitals and reaching out to men in prisons. His deep faith and genuine dedication inspired young men to follow in his footsteps, leading to the formation of the Clerks Regular of the Mother of God.

Even when facing severe political opposition and exile from his home town of Lucca, Italy, Saint John Leonardi never stopped serving. He formed the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine in 1579 and published a catechism that nourished the faith of generations for centuries. In the end, he gave his life in total service, dying at age 68 from a disease contracted while caring for plague victims.

Reflection for Today 💭
What can one person do? A lot!

As the saying goes: God and one person are a majority.

When you align your life with God’s will, what you can accomplish is far beyond what you could ever imagine. Each of us is unique, blessed with gifts and talents created specifically to serve our brothers and sisters and build up God’s kingdom. Never underestimate what God can do through your simple "yes."

🙏 Patron Saint of: Pharmacists (having trained as a pharmacist in his youth) and those accused of crimes.

Saint John Leonardi, pray for us!

Twenty-seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time:

Gospel
Matthew 21:33-43

Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people:
"Hear another parable.
There was a landowner who planted a vineyard,
put a hedge around it, dug a w**e press in it, and built a tower.
Then he leased it to tenants and went on a journey.
When vintage time drew near,
he sent his servants to the tenants to obtain his produce.
But the tenants seized the servants and one they beat,
another they killed, and a third they stoned.
Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones,
but they treated them in the same way.
Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking,
'They will respect my son.'
But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another,
'This is the heir.
Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.'
They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?"
They answered him,
"He will put those wretched men to a wretched death
and lease his vineyard to other tenants
who will give him the produce at the proper times."
Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures:
The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
by the Lord has this been done,
and it is wonderful in our eyes?
Therefore, I say to you,
the kingdom of God will be taken away from you
and given to a people that will produce its fruit."

🍇 What kind of fruit is your life producing? 🍇

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, anxious, or uncertain about whether our efforts in life truly matter. In today’s readings for the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time, God speaks directly to our hearts through the image of a carefully tended vineyard.

God gave His vineyard everything it needed to thrive—fertility, protection, and care. Yet, He looked for a harvest of justice and love, and found sour fruit instead. In the Gospel (Matthew 21:33-43), Jesus reminds us that privilege without responsibility leads us away from God's purpose. We are not just visitors in God's world; we are stewards called to yield good fruit.

💡 3 Key Reflections for Your Week:
Examine Your Yield: God has invested so much grace into your life. Are you returning love, kindness, and righteousness, or wild, bitter grapes?

Trade Anxiety for Prayer: Feeling weighed down? St. Paul offers the ultimate visual reset in Philippians 4:6–7: “Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.”

Focus on the Good: Fill your mind with whatever is true, honorable, pure, lovely, and gracious. What you feed your mind shapes the fruit of your life.

✨ Peace isn't the absence of trouble—it's the presence of God guarding your heart.

Let us build our lives on Christ, the true Cornerstone, and strive daily to bear fruit that lasts.
