Famous YouTube twins Danny & Michael Philippou, the minds behind “The Babadook” (2014), are back to grab you by the hand and never let go! From the company that keeps hittin 3’s from the parking lot, A24 presents: Talk to Me!
When a group of friends discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.
The Philippou twins don’t waste a second as the film kicks-in-the-door of your psyche from its intro to the final minute. The main attraction is Sophie Wilde’s character “Mia”, and how grief and sadness send her on an unhinged ride off the edge. The film flows quickly, supplying an excursion of the super-natural as Mia’s life and sanity are reduced to ash.
The direction of the film keeps the audience focused, as you’re forced to figure out which character is going to pull the last block from this already swaying Jenga tower.
The Philippou twins do a solid job of weaving the aspects of horror, suspense, and emotional damage together, to show just how quickly one’s mental health can crumble under immense pressure. And in classic Philippou fashion, they sprinkle a fine helping of comedy throughout to bring a nice balance to the film.
Overall, this film is a must see, on the solo, with the crew, on a date, doesn’t matter. Go see this film, do it now, you deserve it!
