In this month of love and entering the season of lent, let us be reminded of the unconditional love that has been shown to us. Psalm 139 is a beautiful affirmation of how long God has and will love us, no matter what.

While there can be a comfort in being known, there is also often a fear that we could become unloved. But God never learns anything new about us and already loves us to the fullest extent. He knows all the parts of us, even those we feel make us unlovable, and is never swayed in His pursuit of us.

Let us know in the comments what songs come to mind when you think of this radical, never-ending love of God ❤️

We started the month sharing about the importance and comfort of God as our Sustainer. “The Lord Will Provide” by Landon Wolfe with Passion resonates the same message, that we have everything we need with our Father by our side.

Pulling from Matthew 6, this song directs our minds to the birds and the flowers, which live with very little control over the circumstances but fully in dependence on their Creator to provide what they need.

May we know and believe He wants to do the same for us - and to an even greater measure 🩵

2025 was marked by trusting the Lord to sustain us through highs and lows. We are returning to our Psalm of the Month practice in 2026, so it seems fitting to start with one that reminds us of the Sustainer.

Psalm 127 is a source of deep comfort for those feeling the pressure to perform, build, or care. There is One who watches and works even when we can't, and all of our blessings are rooted in Him.

Let us know in the comments how you are asking the Sustainer to be with you this year - we would love to pray with you🤍

To meditate on Scripture is often to be reminded of the simplicity that is at the heart of our relationship with the Lord. "Still Waters (Psalm 23)" by Leanna Crawford starts with that concept and reminds us that our enemies have no true foothold when God's Word is spoken.

We often think about still waters being in certain seasons of our lives, but as this bridge says, "still waters run through any valley I could find." The Lord is not only with us in every season, but He also offers peace in the midst of each. Many of us know it is easy to get lost in the valley and forget the Shepherd. Thank God for His Word that directs us back to His heart on days when we cannot find it on our own 🤍

Summer is just beginning, and many of us are eager to breathe the sigh of relief that comes with the new season. Others may be left longing for change to come, and some may even be dreading change to come. Psalm 23 assures us that, whatever is to come, we have a Shepherd who is more than able to lead us through it.

This psalm shows us many scenes - green pastures, quiet waters, the valley of the shadow of death, the table prepared in the presence of our enemies - and the Lord is there at each. He is our Shepherd who travels our journies with us, bringing a peace that offers genuine rest in the midst of chaos, a spirit of freedom in the face of scarcity, and grateful humility in times of abundance.

Something beautiful about a shepherd is that, though his role is to be a leader, he willingly follows his straying sheep to help them find safety again. That is most true for the Good Shepherd, and when we are found by Him and choose to follow His lead, we not only find safety but a Home to journey with us 🤍

Last month, we talked about repentance and humility, specifically in light of the hope of redemption we have in Christ's death and resurrection. We started the month with Psalm 51, and while David did not know the full story yet, he longed for the kind of restoration that Christ would ultimately achieve for us. The Writer's Well with The Worship Initiative was inspired by this psalm in writing "Create in Me," which goes further to emphasize the core desire of God's people: that we may be in the presence of our Savior.

We have a longing for our Savior, but the good news is that He has an even greater longing for us. God is against sin, but His heart is for people. The fact that He would be willing to accept a substitute to receive our judgement and clear our record is a concept foreign to the modern-day legal system. Still, He goes further than just covering what we have done and also transforms our hearts that have gotten us to where we are in the first place. He turns the dissonance we created into harmony that beautifully showcases His heart for redemption.

As this song repeats, all of this is for the joy of His people being in His presence again, for all of our days!

Now, as we enter April and continue through the Lenten season, we want to highlight a more sobering Psalm. Psalm 51 was written by King David at a point of great remorse and deep awareness of his sin. David's response is an acknowledgement of his failings and a plea for the Lord to address the root of the issue in his heart.

In the midst of this humility, there is great Hope that God is ready to provide the redemption we need. While sin does cause great sorrow, it does not resign us to despair because we are not left to deal with it alone. God is a compassionate and gracious God. He is slow to anger and abounding in love and faithfulness. And though He does not leave the guilty unpunished, His greater love and forgiveness are displayed in Christ's sacrifice, made on our behalf so that we can know without a shadow of a doubt that mercy triumphs over judgement.

To finish out the theme we began in March, we wanted to highlight a Contemporary Christian Music staple from the 80s and 90s. "Thy Word" by Amy Grant puts a key phrase of Psalm 119 to tune and helps us bury truth in our heart!

The phrase "please be near me until the end," from the first verse is a sentiment long held by God's people. We see that God does give that promise, to be with His people, many times throughout Scripture. God spoke these words to the Israelites in the Old Testament, Jesus left His followers with this promise in the New Testament, and the words have been written down many times over for even our benefit today as His Word continues to be a beacon of hope.

When thinking of those who followed the Lord in the Old Testament, we often think of the ways they wandered or missed the mark, but we also have so many stories of those who clung to the Word of God. They knew His Word was precious. Whether then or now, it is incredible to consider how God's Word has a power to take hold of us, even before we have taken hold of it. May we always be thankful for this specific gift of grace to us!
