On Sunday, we'll celebrate the closing of the second season of Poetry In Place, a series of monthly workshops facilitated by Lisa Huffaker & Joe Milazzo along the banks of the Trinity River. Every participant, regardless of their previous publication history, was invited to contribute the material they created during the workshops to this year's anthology. The result is a beautiful artifact, with 32 community members documenting their experiences, available for free online and on Sunday, for purchase at the reception and reading. Join us at 2pm, October 18th at Apprentice Creative Space to hear from the poets themselves. The reading is free to attend; RSVP here https://writersgarret.org/event/2026-poetry-in-place-reading/

"Show us your river."

Each month from January through August, a group met on the banks of the Trinity River to notice, listen, write and share. Their task was to record their experience through poetry, documenting an evolving relationship with the body of water responsible for the founding of the city of Dallas nearly 200 years ago.

A selection of the results of those workshops appear in this year's Poetry In Place anthology. On Sunday October 18th, we invite you to join us at Apprentice Creative Space to hear some of those words for yourself as we celebrate the release of the physical copies of the anthology. RSVP to join us for the reading now https://writersgarret.org/event/2026-poetry-in-place-reading/
