In an ongoing recognition of outstanding organizations we get to partner with routinely, today we want to recognize The Food Lounge.
Established by a group of high school students in 2021, The Food Lounge (TFL) is a nonprofit organization with a mission addressing food insecurity and serving communities in need. TFL volunteers have been proudly collaborating with Rays of Light since 2024 and here's the reflection of some of their AMAZING volunteers:
Alexandrea Sfikas:
Spending time with the kids over the past few years has brought me so much joy. They’re incredibly creative and full of positivity, and I always feel uplifted whenever I’m around them. Whether we’re playing games, watching movies, or doing arts and crafts, I know I’m going to have a great time. Thank you, Rays of Light, for giving me the opportunity to volunteer, lead and connect with so many kind and vibrant souls!
Edgar P**n:
Participating in Ray of Lights allows me to develop communication skills with special needs children, while also enabling me to learn about leadership, coordination, problem-solving, and other soft skills that will greatly aid me in interacting with people from diverse backgrounds in the future.
Ella Xu:
This was my first time being a volunteer at Rays of light. It was a great experience to make new friends and help others. I had a lot of fun with my new friends, and they gave me an unforgettable night.
Matthew Kuo:
Nothing feels more meaningful than seeing our efforts bring genuine smiles and happiness to others. Helping organize and lead volunteer efforts has shown me how powerful teamwork can be in making a real difference in our community.
Ryan Guo:
I’ve been volunteering at Rays of The Lights since last fall, enjoying every bit of time spent volunteering and sharing the enjoyment with the children there. My favorite part is getting to know the unique skills that children with special needs have such as having an interest in telling what time it is or being a pro at video games. Above it all, my most favorite part is seeing everyone having a fun time.
Tzy Chyi Chee:
Hanging out with the kids is so much fun! They are super sweet and always have so much energy! I’m so grateful for this opportunity that Rays of Light has given me!
Xian Qing (Sonia) Kong:
Rays of light has taught me to appreciate all the simple moments; through them I find and feel connection, purpose, and so much joy. Knowing I am able to play even a small role in bringing a smile to another's face is a feeling that stays with me beyond every single special moment.
