The Lights Out DFW! initiative in North Texas is more than just a program: it’s a movement fueled by the passion we’ve seen in every conversation.

Audubon Dallas board members Jocelyn Womack and Karen Carpenter are proud to participate in weekly morning surveys to document bird window strike fatalities in downtown Dallas.

This year’s surveys are coordinated by a dedicated group of volunteers, with Tim Brys, a founding member of Lights Out Dallas!, helping lead logistics with support from partner organizations, like Audubon Dallas and others.

You don’t have to be a surveyor to save a bird! There are many ways to be part of the initiative this spring:

🐦‍⬛Flip the Switch: Ensure all non-essential lights are off from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.
🐦‍⬛Spread the Word: Learn how you can get involved through Audubon Texas toolkit:
🐦‍⬛Advocate: Encourage your city leaders and neighbors to participate in the Lights Out effort.

As the year comes to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on the moments that brought us peace, wonder, and connection—quiet trails beneath towering trees, the flash of a bird’s wings, the simple joy of being outdoors.

Because of you, Audubon Dallas continues to protect and care for Cedar Ridge Preserve and the vital habitats that make North Texas a refuge for birds, wildlife, and people alike. Your support ensures that children discover nature for the first time, families find solace on the trails, and wildlife has a safe place to thrive.

As we look ahead to a new year, your end-of-year gift is more important than ever. It helps us steward these natural spaces, expand conservation efforts, and keep nature accessible to all—today and for generations to come.

If you’re able, please consider making a year-end donation before December 31. Your generosity is a powerful act of hope for the natural world we share. Donate @ https://audubondallas.org/donation-ad/

Today isn’t just another Tuesday.

It’s a day when generosity becomes action—when people across the world come together to protect what matters most.

For Audubon Dallas, what matters is Cedar Ridge Preserve.

If you’ve ever walked its trails, heard a warbler’s call echo through the trees, or watched a child light up during a nature program, you know this place is more than a park. It’s a sanctuary—one that depends entirely on people like you.

Cedar Ridge Preserve is one of the most visited natural spaces in Texas. Yet unlike a state park, it survives only because our community chooses to protect it.

Your Giving Tuesday donation ensures this incredible place remains wild, open, and thriving.
