Altrusa International of Dallas, Texas, Inc.

10/08/2026

Our Altrusa International Inc. Club of Dallas on Tuesday celebrated 98 years serving our community. Our District Nine (state of Texas) Director Beverly was in town to party with us. She honored our OG royalty Betty for her 51 years with Altrusa by giving her a pink tiara (well deserved!) Volunteering with Altrusa is a joy: surrounded by successful women (and a few good men!) who volunteer together in our community to make it a better place to live and work. Oct. 31 is our next service project, bagging up items useful to elderly pet owners who often go without to feed their beloved dog or cat. SPAN is a wonderful organization (Senior Pet Assistance Network.) Join us! We’ll be filling 57 baskets on Saturday 10/31 at 10:30am in a warehouse in Carrollton. Message us for more info.

Hairnets aren’t a good look on most of us but we did GOOD WORK Saturday creating 27,648 meals for starving children. “Feed My Starving Children” in Richardson is extremely efficient and runs mainly on volunteers, 5 shifts a day, 6 days a week. Shout Out to our club members who volunteered and our 8 guests!

Hell yes!

Give Like Dolly Day is coming September 25!

Dolly Parton believed in giving back and helping children dream bigger—and this year, we’re celebrating that spirit through Give Like Dolly Day.

On September 25, we’re inviting communities all over the world to join us in giving back to children by supporting your local Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program. Your support helps make it possible for the children in your community to receive a free, high-quality book every month from birth to age 5.

Another fun and informative meeting as we heard from Cassandra and Jin Ae from Readers2Leaders about the successful programs their agency runs to help very young students grow up loving books! We donated a stack of new children’s books plus a $1000 check to keep them tutoring young students to become readers - and LEADERS! Cassandra attended 13 different schools growing up with her parents in the military and Jin Ae is a graduate of MacArthur High in Irving and SMU; she worked with Americorp for two years before being hired on at R2L. Both women love what they do and it shows! Literacy is the main focus of Altrusa International and we are happy to help Readers2Leaders to continue their outreach to students who are learning to read and need a little more help and encouragement.

Our annual “Boxing Day” service project Tuesday was fun as we decorated the inside flaps of boxes to be shipped to our military members overseas filled with goodies. These care packages bring joy to those far from home, and they get a surprise seeing our encouraging notes inside the boxes, written on the flaps. We purchase the boxes and craft supplies and coordinate with Airborne Angels who fill them up and ship them off. We also donate to Airborne Angels the funds needed for postage. .❤️
