We would like to introduce to you our first recipient of The Heart of Christmas Cheer, Michele Schilling! Michele and her family have been volunteering at Christmas Cheer since 2012, 13 years💪🏼 Over the years as a teacher at Lacreole Middle school she has organized many food drives that Christmas Cheer is so grateful for.

We asked Michele what Christmas Cheer means to her and why she does it. “Christmas Cheer represents the best of our Dallas Community. I am in awe EVERY year when I arrive bright and early Christmas Eve morning to witness hundreds of community neighbors from all walks of life united together in laughter, joy, and service to bless those in need. It is symbolic of what the Christmas holiday should be; taking time to step away from the hustle and bustle of the crazy season to gather together to be His Hands and Feet in service. I’ve shared with students countless times that there is no way to put in words the extraordinary gift found in gifting your time for others in such a way.”

Michele’s favorite memory of Christmas Cheer in her word: “I have a few favorite memories - both of which are built upon each year. Within the school arena, observing and guiding the organized chaos that is the food drive experience is so very rewarding. I’ve had the opportunity to witness so many students share their time and talents in creative promotional videos and marketing and hours of enthusiastic effort in organizing and coordinating the multiple facets of a food drive . This makes for a very proud teacher as their actions are motivated far beyond a letter grade.
My other “memory” continues to grow as well while I watch my own kids embrace the Christmas Cheer event with unparalleled passion and excitement. I am truly humbled by their early morning zest and ability to prompt smiles and laughter among others as they box the food with tremendous speed and efficiency.”

As Michele has been named the first Heart of Christmas Cheer after Judy Boustead she is a perfect example of what this award means. “On a separate note, I still vividly recall Judy Boustead sharing with sixth graders years ago about the vision and mission of the food drive - including sharing her personal testimony of a childhood where family needs were great. I most certainly do not feel worthy of receiving this “award” named after the exemplary human/hero who was Judy. That said, I take seriously the honor of doing my best to keep her selfless legacy alive in our schools and community.♥️”

Thank you Michele for all your help over the years and putting the heart into what our community comes together to do! It wouldn’t be possible without you❤️
