As a proud parent of 4 US Naval Academy Graduates (3 children, 1 daughter-in-law). Army Navy is fond to my heart! Here's some HISTORY, TRADITION, AND PRANKS: INSIDE THE ARMY-NAVY FOOTBALL GAME

The Army-Navy Game is this Saturday! Take a few moments to familiarize yourself with some of the lesser-known elements of this long-standing rivalry before settling in to watch the 124th installment of America’s Game tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. ET on CBS.

A BREAK IN THE ACTION
The rivalry began in 1890, but an intense 1893 game (which Navy won 6-4) created such ill will that an Army General and a retired Navy Admiral nearly fought a duel over it, leading to a six-year pause. The Secretary of War and Secretary of the Navy had to intervene, but ultimately cooler heads prevailed, with the game resuming in 1899.

THE YEARLY PRISONER EXCHANGE
This tradition dates to 1945, and here’s how it works: prior to kick off, the Navy Midshipmen who spend the semester at West Point and the Army Cadets who spend the semester in Annapolis are brought to midfield. Academy leaders then exchange their ‘prisoners’ so the students can cheer on their teams in their own student section.

A GREAT HEIST AND AN EPIC PAYBACK
In 1990 a crew of 10 Army Cadets engaged in a “spirit mission” to steal Navy's mascot—Bill the Goat XXVII. They were successful, but within days, the heat of the investigation intensified, the goat was released, and the cadets were disciplined for “misappropriating the Navy goat.”

As retaliation, in 1991 a group of 17 Midshipmen hatched an intricate plan to apprehend Army's pack of mascots—four 1,000-pound mules. They tied up Army employees, loaded the beasts of burden in vehicles, and sped back to Annapolis. The mules were eventually returned unharmed.

THE ANNUAL FOOTBALL RUN
For many years the Naval Academy has assembled a team to run a football from the academy in Annapolis to the game location. This year, nearly 200 Midshipmen are running 450 brisk miles from Annapolis to Foxborough, Massachusetts, where they are due to arrive tomorrow morning.

EXCEPTIONAL SPORTSMANSHIP
Both teams sing the alma mater of each school with the losing team’s song being sung first as a show of sportsmanship (the winners sing second). This is done out of respect to honor the fallen of each branch because, after all, no matter how fierce this rivalry gets, everyone involved has been called to a greater, united, cause.

Hello! Can someone let me know who the current president is and the current membership chair? I am a past membership chair (my son graduated in 2018) and have a question and not sure who to ask. Thank you! Go Navy!

Hi Everyone! We wanted to provide one more reminder!!

Welcome Aboard 2018 will take place on June 16, 2018 at 10:00 AM. This year's event is different from the last few years. The event is being held at Southwest Airlines Headquarters and in c onjunction with a North Texas USNAAA picnic immediately following the Welcome Aboard event. The picnic starts at 12:00 Noon.

For Plebes-to-Be and parents, you will also receive separate contact outreaches. We are making every effort to over-communicate and over-contact! Midshipmen who will be home during First Block are encouraged to attend. Plebes-to-Be and their parents will have many questions; and current Midshipmen are the best ambassadors to represent the USNA. We do ask that any Midshipmen who attends to please wear Summer Whites.

Lastly, but VERY IMPORTANTLY: Everyone who plans to attend Welcome Aboard must register via the link directly below. Due to the location of this year's Welcome Aboard, heightened security will be employed. Anyone who shows up and is not on the List of Attendees may not be granted
access to the property!

In two weeks, Carry the Load will hold its' fundraiser event. For those who are not familiar, Carry The Load is a non-profit dedicated to putting meaning back into Memorial Day. Founded by two of our graduates - Clint Bruce '97 and Stephen Holley '00 - it is a reminder to people nationwide that Memorial Day is more than just barbecues. Started as a way to honor fallen friends, the movement has grown to national levels with walks from both coasts ending in Dallas on Memorial Day weekend.

12:00PM Sun 27 May 2018 - 7:30PM Mon 28 May 2018 This cause is now our flagship fundraiser event for USNAAA NTX. This organization supports our Chapter mission, veterans and USNA alumni. Get involved now!

We are now about five weeks away from the Welcome Aboard event for all our new 2022/2023 Midshipmen! We will be posting an event invite with details here in the coming days but we also wanted to give everyone an early reminder so you can mark it on your calendar.

This year's event is on the 16th of June at 10:00 am and will be held at SWA Corporate HQ. A picnic will follow the event and we are hoping to get a chance to meet all the new incoming Plebes and parents. As fellow USNA parents we definitely understand what these new few weeks before and few months after I-Day bring in the way of uncertainty, curiosity, and excitement! 😃 Go Navy!!

Hello Everyone,
This year, The USNA Alumni Association and NAPCNTX Parents' Club are holding more join events. The first of these events is next month's Dining Out event on May 5th at the Ga***rd Texan. We just posted an Event Invite and we have included event details from the USNAAA in the meeting and a link to purchase tickets.

The USNAA and NAPCNTX are partially underwriting the cost of the event. Tickets are regularly $80 per person but as an Alumni your cost is $25 and NAPCNTX member parents ticket cost is $35 per person! This is a huge discount off the original price and we hope many parents and alumni are able to attend.

The Event Snapshot is as follows:
4:00 PM to 5:00 PM: Young Alumni Pre-Party/Happy Hour
5:00 PM to 5:30 PM: Reception and Fellowship
5:30 PM to 6:45 PM: Dinner and Program

Hi Everyone,
We would like to share with you a recent invitation we received from Mercury One. This is a very interesting and thoughtful tribute.

Mercury One, through its' partnership with WallBuilders, would like to invite all military veterans and their family in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area to attend a Wallbuilders special taping on honoring those who served and those who gave their all.

Filming will take place on Saturday, March 31, 2018. The show is set to air on Memorial Day 2018. Invitees will also be able to view artifacts and documents and to ask questions about the event. Some of the historical military artifacts that will be present at the event include a D-Day flag, General George Patton's 4-star flag, and many other amazing historical artifacts from various American wars. WallBuilders and Mercury one are also pleased to announce special guest Lt. Col. Brian Birdwell will be in attendance. Lt. Col. Birdwell was the closest survivor at the point of impact during the 9/11 Pentagon attack.

Filming is scheduled to start at 10 AM. However, we are asking for the audience to arrive at 9:15 AM. The filming will be at the TBN Studios located at 2900 W Airport Fwy, Irving, TX 75061. Veterans who plan to attend are encouraged to wear uniforms or affiliated military gear of their associated service branch but is not required for attendance.

This would be a wonderful opportunity for our veterans to see and potentially hold some remarkable pieces of history; as well as being a part of a program geared towards remembering and honoring those who gave so much for this great nation. RSVP is required by Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Seating at this event is limited.

When: Saturday, March 31st at 10 AM; arrival time is 9:15 AM
Where: TBN Studios, 2900 W Airport Fwy, Irving, TX 75061
Please RSVP by no later than Tuesday, March 27th to Katie at [email protected].

We look forward to seeing you there!
