Metro Heals is proud to announce that we are now supporting the Dallas Area R**e Crisis Center (DARCC). They are a wonderful organization that provides counseling and support to all victims of sexual assault as well as organizing community outreach programs. We hope to continue supporting them in the future and possibly organizing joint volunteer activities. You can learn more about DARCC at their website. https://dallasrapecrisis.org.

Metro Heals was a gold sponsor at the Celebration of Hope Breakfast on May 10th. Hope Clinic of Garland is the only safety net free clinic in the Garland area, and they are facing difficult decisions to scale back their services due to lack of funding. Every dollar they receive makes a tremendous difference. Tanya Downing, pictured speaking at the breakfast, is the director of Hope Clinic. Recently, Metro Anesthesia had the pleasure of having Tanya speak at our “All Doctors” Saturday meeting.

On March 2, Metro Heals was a silver sponsor at the Open Arms Clinic Gala. Open Arms is a safety net free clinic in Arlington, TX that Metro Heals has supported over the last 2 years.

Our first family volunteer day was a success, as kids outnumbered adults! We helped pack over 1200 lunches for the hungry at Tango Charities ‘Feed the City’ Lakewood event. Our group alone made approximately 300 sandwiches and packed 300 bags of chips. Dr Sunny and her family raced against my wife, daughter, me (Dr Cirone), and Dr Rew. Our 2 tables left the teenagers only table, with my two sons and a friend, in the dust. Unfortunately, we lost count right at the end, so no final winner was declared. Next time!

We would like to introduce Dr Charlie Rew as Metro Heals new volunteer chief. We’re excited to have him on board and thank him for stepping up.

On Sunday December 10, Metro Heals had 45 runners participate in the Dallas Marathon to raise money for Hope Clinic of Garland, Open Arms Clinic of Arlington, and Counting Stars Ranch for Veterans in Ore City. Our foundation was founded in Jan 2023 by Metro Anesthesia to heal the local communities around our practice. The runners made up six 5 person marathon relay teams, and 15 individual half or full marathon participants. Those running were metro anesthesiologists, surgeons, nurses, surgical techs, and family. All helped raise a total over $5,000 for our cause. A huge thank you to every runner, and also those that bought raffle tickets or came to the Ice House happy hour after the race. Also thank you to our sponsors: Metro Anesthesia, Texas Health Surgery Center Rockwall, Texas Health Surgery Center Denton, SCA, and Hartman Terilli Realty Group.

On Saturday, Nov 4, Metro Heals Anesthesiologists and family traveled to East Texas to volunteer for Counting Stars Ranch. Counting Stars provides weekend retreats to veterans and first responders with PTSD. Our service project for the afternoon was painting the fence at the ranch- good fun work. In the evening, Metro Heals provided BBQ for the vets and their families. Many stories were shared. Thank you Vicki and Dave for inviting us!

The leadup to this weekend's Metro Heals breakfast at Ronald McDonald House's "Meals That Heal" was fraught with uncertainty. A menu was planned for us, but we didn't know what it was. Our team of 5 showed up at 6am yesterday to find a manila folder marked "To Metro - Recipe," left behind by a mystery chef. The instructions - "breakfast pizza bagels" - for a serving size of ~30 or more, to be ready in 2 hours. Quoted Stephen Sarmiento - "I feel like I'm in top chef right now." And thus it became... Top Chef, Metro edition. Most (but not all) ingredients were found, requiring some quick thinking to shore up the gaps, and Jamie engineered a gravy from scratch.
While Jamie was working on that, Suresh and Stephen got the meat grilling, and Marc was chopping up fruit. Later, the bagels were adorned with various fixings. It all came together in the end! One of the managers stopped by to thank us and told us that they were having trouble filling the breakfast shifts. Apparently RMHD used to have nearly 100% of its meals cooked onsite by volunteers, but all of that dipped significantly after Covid. So we are definitely helping out in an area of need.
Also, thank you to everyone who donated to the breakfast fund, it is greatly appreciated and allowed this to happen!! Stay tuned for future events.

Our foundation Co-President, Dr. Musick, in partnership with his wife's practice, Paradigm Family Health, traveled to Lake Hill Preparatory School to instruct the teachers and staff in “Stop the Bleed.” We trained about 70 people and in basic trauma medicine and tourniquet application. The day was a great a success and we are hoping to expand this pilot program in the future. Be on the look out for future lecture dates.

Our June donation drive with limited edition Metro Heals T shirts exceeded our expectations. We received a total of $2175 in generous one-time donations, on top of our recurring donations, and gave out 49 limited edition Metro Heals T shirts. Shirts came in blue or white, and included our caring hand logo on the front. The shirts can be worn at all volunteer events.

With the successful drive, the Metro Heals Board authorized a $1,000 donation to both Hope Clinic in Garland and Open Arms Clinic in Arlington.

On May 20 Metro Heals finished out a busy month by sponsoring its second blood drive in six months at the Royal Oaks Country Club during the Metro Anesthesia morning meeting. Thank you to Royal Oaks for providing the space, and the Carters Blood Bus. The staff in the bus was amazing! Finally, a huge thank you to all who donated.

Metro Heals was an official sponsor of the Celebration of Hope Breakfast on May 11 benefiting the Hope Clinic in Garland. The Hope Clinic serves the uninsured in Garland and the surrounding area, and was opened in 2002. At the breakfast we heard from patients whose lives were changed by the care at Hope. Like all free clinics, they are always in need of donations, so YOU made a difference.

Ronald McDonald House

Our first meal prep event is in the books for the RMHD "Meals that Heal" program - and first of many to come. We made breakfast for roughly 30 people - kids and parents. We received several compliments on the freshly made hot food and the fresh fruit selection.

Many thanks to the chefs - Andee Cameron, Dr Megan Morris, Yvonne Gochangco and her family, Dr Krishna Patel and his wife, Dr Michael Allison, and Dr Charlie Halsted and his wife. Also many thanks to Dr Sunny, Dr Sarmiento, Dr Cirone, Dr Highfill, Dr Stamatakos, and the CRNA’s from Mckinney: Juan Cuervo, Philip Kwety, Ashley, and Nicole Johnson for donating supplies to the Ronald McDonald house.

We will be doing this on a recurring basis, so if you are interested in joining next time let us know!

Open Arms Clinic Gala Recap - April 29

The Metro Heals foundation will provide ongoing support to the Opens Arm Clinic in Arlington, TX. The clinic has been open since 2011, and provides free care to the uninsured in Arlington. Their annual fundraising gala, Heart & Soul, was April 29th. Metro Heals was an official sponsor of the event, and 3 board members attended with their spouses. It was a lovely event with a boisterous live auction, and a significant amount of money was raised for the clinic.
