Three short years ago, I met this young man at the 60th SPAH Convention. He was a recipient of the SPAH Youth Scholarship. He arrived with his Mom, and we spoke & took a photo in the hotel's reception area.
Thereafter, I saw a young fella driven by his passion to make music, blues music! He was everywhere, & like a sponge, he gathered all the tools he needed. In the ensuing 3 years, he's graced many a stage, been mentored by some of the best in the business and honed his craft of Chicago Blues to a razor-sharp edge!
Yesterday, I ordered his first album, "Young Rell" and it downloaded from Apple this morning. I listened thoroughly and with great joy, knowing he had realized a dream come true. His approach to the music is respectful, original and heartfelt! His collective band of musicians work seamlessly with him, and the magic happens because of that synergy! Thank you, young Rell, for your dedication to the music and for allowing yourself to dream! This album is about to take the blues world by storm! Be proud, young fella, you earned it the old-fashioned way...hard work! Honoured to know you, Rell!
