Words from our president
The verdict was guilty and all day people asked me how I felt about it. The truth is I don’t know. I can’t say it’s a celebration, because Andre Emmett will never be back with us. Relief, a small sense of closure, yes.
But this photo, though seemingly simple, captures my feelings. Si Mon’ Emmett, featured in the photo, is Dre’s sister and a valued board member of the Foundation (valued is an understatement.)
The picture illustrates my feelings perfectly. You can’t see her face, is she happy, is she sad? Who knows. Probably both. In either scenario, she’s fist up and strong. She’s strong in the Justice center that has brought us pain and so much joy at the same time. She Carries her name on her back, his name on her back, and the hurt, tears, and joy of everyone who loved dre.
As she looks out, she looks out over a beautiful city filled with people who need our help. People who need our heart. People who, because of what Dre Started, will have a better life because of his legacy and our efforts.
That’s how I feel. 💙
