DFW International Community Alliance, a Dallas-based 501c3, has organized a drive that will provide children in 240 North Texas refugee families with new clothes and shoes for the Eid holiday.

Our plan is to deliver WalMart gift cards to the 240 mothers by June 18, so each can purchase the right sizes for her little ones; we're also providing each child with new underwear and a goody bag of candy and small toys. .

Our goal: 475 children
Sponsored so far: approximately 370 children
We still need sponsors for 105 children!

Your $50 donation will provide a needy child from Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Eritrea or Iran with a happy Eid day.

All donations are tax-deductible - just send an email to and we will supply a tax receipt. You can sponsor a child in any of these ways:

a. by Paypal to [email protected]

b. by mailiong a check to DFW International, 2717 Hackberry Lane, Garland, TX 75042

DFW International Community Alliance, a Dallas-based 501c3, has organized a drive that will provide children in 240 local refugee families with new clothes and shoes for the Eid holiday. The children, each of whom arrived in the Dallas metroplex during the past 12 months, are from Afghanistan, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Iraq, Iran, and Burma.

YOU can provide 475 refugee children who live in Dallas and Fort Worth with the new clothes and shoes that Muslims traditionally wear on Eid.. When a refugee father takes home only $1,200 each month in salary, he's unable to offer them anything at all during Ramadan and Eid. For families headed by uneducated single mothers, the situation is even more bleak.

Our plan is to deliver WalMart gift cards to the 240 mothers by June 18, so each can purchase shoes and clothing for her children to wear on June 26 Eid Day.

We'll accompany the gift cards with:
1 package of dates (traditional for Ramadan)
1 goody bag for each child (candies, small toys
1 pack of new underwear for each
1 holiday greeting card

We estimate that this sponsorship amount for families of different sizes:
$100 for families with 2 children
$150 for families with 3 to 4 children
$200 for families with 5 to 6 children
$250 for families with 7 to 8 children

All donations are tax-deductible - just send us an email and we will supply a tax receipt. We have three ways for you to help:

a. through this website

b. by sending a check to DFW International, 2717 Hackberry Lane, Garland, TX 75042

c. by calling any of the volunteers on the attached flyer.

Our website is www.dfwinternational.org, and we are available to respond to your questions, at [email protected].

ps. YES! We also need sponsors for DATES!

Yusafi children in photo, from left: Gulsoom (20), Magin (13), Tamanna (21) with Mustafa (10), Shukrie (17), Mujtaba (15).

This beautiful family of six orphaned Afghani children have reached the United States and are in crucial need of your help. The Yusafi children lost their father during the war with the Taliban, and their mother from sickness. They fled with their elder brother to Pakistan, when he worked as a day laborer but he too died.

For three long years the eldest girls did embroidery work to pay for their food, and the family lived in one room where they ate and slept on the floor. Unable even to afford to turn on the single light bulb in their room, the children were finally resettled by the State Dept in Fort Worth TX. But their refugee agency only covered expenses for a few months and they are in danger of being evicted from their apartment and being sent to a homeless shelter.

We were introduced to the children by other Afghan refugees, who explained that the children have no way to pay this month's rent and owe $1,000 in utilities. The family does receive food stamps, but we're asking your help to cover
-$900 rent for their small 2 bedroom apartment for March and at least 3 additional months
- $1,000 in overdue payment for utilities
- $250 for gas, electricity, other utilities for the next 3 months
- misc expenses (shoes, jackets, school supplies)
- $5,000 for used car, insurance, registration

The deaths of both parents left these young refugees totally alone in a new strange country but they are dedicated to working hard to build their new lives. Four of the children attend school in Fort Worth TX, where they are learning English. Tamanna, who at 21 is the eldest, has found part time work but it is not enough to support her brothers and sisters.

We have committed to mentor and guide these young people during the next months and to help ensure their success. With your support to cover their basic expenses for a short time, we'll begin to teach these orphans basic life sustaining-skills and create a plan for survival and success in the future. In addition, we'd like to teach the older sisters Tamana and Gulsoom how to drive, and purchase a used car ($5,000) so both girls can get to their jobs and also to GED and ESL classes in the evenings.

Thank you for any donations you can make or blessings and prayers you can send. If you have questions, you are welcome to email us at < [email protected]>.

As we are members of the 501c3 nonprofit Refugee Support Committee of DFW International Community Alliance, your donation is tax-deductible and a receipt is available upon request.

TWO HOLIDAY VOLUNTEER PROJECTS
Since it is the holiday season, many of you have written to us asking how you can help. Here are two opportunities.

a. VOLUNTEER to be an 'auntie' to a child for the holiday. Contact CARRIE at

We have visited 27 families that are new during the past two months. Six of those families have already been adopted but we need 'aunties' for the remaining 21. Each of those children needs warm clothing, shoes, and toys. CARRIE will pass you contact information, along with children's s*x / age, so you can shop for them and visit to share holiday cheer.

This activity is a great family project and 'reality check' for our own children.

b. VOLUNTEER to assist African refugee parents and children 'shop' for warm clothing . Contact ZEENATH at

Our event for African refugee families will be held in Desoto on Sunday afternoon between 2 and 4. Santa will visit and provide all 46 children with toys we have purchased. Pam will donate warm clothes for all the refugees. Volunteers are needed to assist the children to find the right sizes.

We'd especially love to include hijabi ladies volunteer at this event. As we expect media coverage, it's a great opportunity to show all of us working in harmony and unity to help the needy.

FYI, Dallas First Church and Dallas County Schools will be providing busses to transport the families.
