Chairman Nate Lee said the jobs lost include 15 carmen, two bridge and building positions, an electrician, a laborer, a maintenance machinist, and around a dozen pipefitters.

The BMWED–IBT, BRS, and IAM coalition held its first mediated bargaining session with CPKC on April 20–21, 2026, facilitated by a National Mediation Board mediator. The mediator outlined bargaining ground rules, and the coalition’s general counsel presented the unions’ longstanding collective positions, which remain unchanged.

On the second day, each union met separately with CPKC to hear the carrier’s proposed work rule changes, which differ by union. The unions agreed to review these proposals and provide feedback at the next mediation session, scheduled for May 12–14, 2026.

Reminder‼ Delegates recently elected to the 2026 BMWED Sixth Regular National Division Convention slated for June 22 through 24 are asked to send in the yellow duplicate credential as soon as possible for processing.

The original delegate credential was mailed to Local Lodge Secretary-Treasurers on Nov. 3, 2025 (if the lodge had a vacant Secretary-Treasurer position it was sent to the Lodge President). If you were elected at your Local Lodge to serve as delegate to the National Division Convention, you should send in your credential right away.

Delegate credentials (yellow copy) can be mailed to BMWED-IBT c/o Wayne Lupo, 41475 Gardenbrook Rd., Novi, MI 48375-1328. Credentials must be postmarked by June 3. Any questions can be emailed to [email protected].

RRB: Pre-Retirement Seminars are online only in 2026

Due to ongoing budget constraints, the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) is unable to conduct pre-retirement seminars in-person this year. These critical seminars help promote a better understanding of the sometimes-complicated RRB benefit programs.

In the absence of in-person meetings, the RRB has made a Pre-Retirement Seminar presentation available to view online. The program has been updated for 2026 and is available on the RRB website (link below). While in-person meetings are preferred, the RRB has received positive feedback regarding its online presentation.

Once on the site, you will find a PDF booklet and video designed to help educate those nearing retirement about the benefits available to them, and what they can expect during the application process. Among other important topics, the 70-minute video explores retired employee and spouse benefits, spouse annuities, working after retirement, survivor benefits, and items affecting retirement and survivor benefits.
