🪶 MMIW | JUSTICE FOR KAYSERA STOPS PRETTY PLACES
Kaysera Stops Pretty Places should have been celebrating her 18th birthday and looking ahead to everything life had in store for her. Instead, her family was left searching for answers after she disappeared in Hardin, Montana, on August 24, 2019.
Kaysera was a talented young woman who played basketball and football, ran cross-country, and performed in school theater productions. She dreamed of becoming an MMA fighter, an actress, and a performer. She was also looking forward to traveling to North Dakota with her family to visit relatives.
Just days before she disappeared, Kaysera recorded and posted a video showing local law enforcement officers allegedly assaulting her 15-year-old brother, who used a wheelchair. Her family and advocates have questioned whether that incident may have played a role in what happened to her.
🕯️ THE NIGHT KAYSERA DISAPPEARED
On August 24, Kaysera was spending time with family and friends. According to accounts of that evening, an altercation occurred at a house involving Kaysera, Isabella Villegas, Nakia Spotted Horse, and Natosi Summers.
When the girls attempted to leave, Natosi allegedly prevented Isabella from leaving. Kaysera and the others reportedly tried to help Isabella. A police car then arrived, causing the group to scatter.
Isabella and Nakia later returned but could not find Kaysera. They wanted to search around the house and backyard, but Natosi allegedly would not allow them to do so. He reportedly became angry and chased them in his vehicle.
Kaysera never returned home.
🕯️ A SEARCH THAT SHOULD HAVE STARTED IMMEDIATELY
Kaysera's family began searching for her and attempting to get help. Her grandmother, Yolanda Fraser, went to the Sheriff's Department to report her missing.
According to the information shared by Kaysera's family and advocates, they were told that they had to wait before law enforcement would take a missing-person report. No alert was issued.
On August 25, Kaysera's aunt, Percelia Brown Bulltail, also attempted to report her missing.
Then, on August 29, 2019, a jogger discovered the body of a young woman lying face down behind homes in a residential neighborhood. The body had reportedly been covered with a plastic sheet and placed among tree trimmings.
Yet Kaysera's family was not immediately told.
When Percelia heard that a young woman's body had been found, she went to investigate. She says police told her it was not Kaysera and would not allow her to view the body.
On August 31, Kaysera's mother and aunt went to the Bullis Mortuary seeking answers. They were again told the body was not Kaysera.
It wasn't until September 11, 2019, that Kaysera's family was finally notified by the Big Horn County Sheriff's Department that the unidentified body was, in fact, Kaysera Stops Pretty Places.
⚖️ CRIMINAL CHARGES — BUT STILL NO HOMICIDE CHARGE
Kaysera's case has been surrounded by troubling questions regarding the handling of her disappearance, the discovery of her body, and the investigation that followed.
There have been criminal charges connected to the events surrounding Kaysera's disappearance, but there has still been no homicide charge filed in connection with Kaysera's death.
Natosi Summers, who was reportedly with Kaysera on the night she disappeared, was charged with felony criminal endangerment in connection with the assault of two other young women who were with Kaysera that night.
Summers later pleaded no contest to felony criminal endangerment in March 2025 and was sentenced to three years of probation.
However, it is important to make the distinction clear: Summers was not convicted of murdering Kaysera, and no one has been charged with Kaysera's homicide.
For Kaysera's family, that leaves one enormous question still hanging over this case:
Who killed Kaysera Stops Pretty Places?
There have also been allegations concerning the handling of Kaysera's personal belongings and evidence, as well as concerns surrounding the removal and cremation of her remains.
Her death remains officially classified as undetermined.
