Many of our legacy residents moved to from what was once known as "Short North Dallas". This area was once a Freedman's Town and the heart of the African American community.

Remembering Black Dallas, INC. will host a Historical Marker Dedication Ceremony for Dr. Walter Ree McMillan and the McMillan Sanitarium on Friday, March 27th at 12:30 p.m., at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library, 1515 Young Street. Underground parking is free and is accessible from Wood Street.

The McMillan family has been an integral part of Dallas and Elm Thicket/Northparks' history.

City of Dallas Budget Meetings

The City of Dallas seeks public engagement and input on the Fiscal Year 2026-27 Budget. City Council Listening Sessions will take place on Monday, March 23 through Thursday, March 26. These meetings provide City Council Members an opportunity to listen to feedback directly from residents prior to beginning work on the FY 2026-27 budget.

Residents can participate in town hall meetings through in-person and virtual options. Spanish interpretation is available in select meetings.

This effort will evaluate options to enhance travel for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users, while improving access to nearby schools, parks, and businesses.
Join the first public meeting to learn more and share input on potential roadway improvements:

DALLAS — Drivers who rely on Interstate 30 through downtown Dallas should prepare for a major weekend shutdown tied to ongoing construction on the I-30 Canyon Project.

Weather permitting, all lanes of eastbound and westbound I-30 will be fully closed between I-35E and I-45/US-75 beginning 10 p.m. Friday, January 16, and reopening by 5 a.m. Monday, January 19.
