💙Thank you, FICPFM. You got it right.

We are still carrying the love from the 2026 FICPFM Family Reunion in Nashville.

From the moment we arrived, we felt like family. Everything about the convening felt intentional. We felt welcomed, cared for, seen, and genuinely connected to the people around us.

Even Who Is Terry Pettis? was welcomed into the Family Reunion with love. ❤️

There was something special about being in a space with people who understand the work, the experiences behind it, and why community matters so much. The conversations, the laughter, the learning, the connections, and simply being together made this convening one we will remember.

FICPFM created a space where people could show up as themselves, build relationships, share knowledge, and feel like they belonged.

Thank you, FICPFM, for getting it right. For being intentional. For taking care of people. For creating space for connection. And most of all, for making us feel like family.

We came to Nashville for a Family Reunion, and that is exactly what it felt like. 💙✊🏾

WHERE WILL YOU TAKE TERRY? 💚

Terry goes everywhere with us.

This weekend, Terry was right there with us at the FICPFM Family Reunion in Nashville. He met so many people, many of whom already knew exactly who he was because Terry is part of TWCUYC’s daily life.

We talk about him. We say his name. We share his story. We bring him into rooms he cannot physically enter right now. Sometimes, we literally bring him along on video call.

Concerts. Vacations. Advocacy events. Grocery runs. The dentist. Random everyday moments.

Where we go, Terry goes.

Being in prison should not place Terry in an invisible category. He is still part of this world, and we are intentional about keeping him connected to it.

Now we want you to make Terry part of your everyday life too.

Take Terry somewhere. Talk about him. Say his name. Introduce someone new to his story. Keep him connected. Keep him visible.

MY BIRTHDAY WISH IS FOR YOU TO GET INVOLVED

First, I want to thank everyone who took the time to wish me a happy birthday. Every message, every word of encouragement, and everyone who thought of me made my day a little brighter. I truly appreciate the love.

As I celebrate another year of life, I also want to call you IN to this work.

There are real opportunities for people to get involved and support the work being done on my behalf. Whether you can give your time, use your voice, share my story, make connections, or help in other ways, your support matters.

I have been incarcerated since I was 19 years old. I just turned 42. I have spent more than half of my life behind these walls, and I am asking for the opportunity to come home and use everything I have learned to make a difference.

I cannot do this alone. I need you.

Happy 42nd Birthday, Terry Pettis!🎉💚

Today, we celebrate more than a birthday. We celebrate a father, leader, mentor, and man whose life continues to have an impact.

Terry has been incarcerated since he was 19 years old. More than two decades later, his circumstances have not stopped him from growing, leading, mentoring others, loving his family, or believing in what is still possible.

At TWCUYC, we believe people are more than the worst moment of their lives. We believe in growth, accountability, transformation, and the possibility of second chances.

Terry’s story is still being written. As he turns 42, we continue to stand with him and advocate for a future where he has the opportunity to bring his leadership, experience, and purpose home to his family and community.

Still standing. Still leading. Still worthy of a future.

Happy Birthday, Terry. We see you, we celebrate you, and we’re still fighting with you. 🤎✊🏾

🍃 A Brief Pause

Since our founding, TWCUYC has remained committed to showing up for our community. From housing support to advocacy, we’ve always believed in being present when we’re needed.

For the first time, we’re taking an intentional organizational pause.

Our office will be closed August 4 through August 17 to give our team the opportunity to rest, reset, and return refreshed. Taking care of those who serve our community helps ensure we can continue showing up with the care, compassion, and commitment our community relies on.

While our office is closed, transitional housing services and housing intakes will continue without interruption.

Please note:

📧 Emails, phone calls, and other non urgent inquiries will be returned beginning Tuesday, August 18.

DON’T JUST WATCH FROM THE SIDELINES.

Advocacy doesn’t always make headlines, but it does make a difference.

BPH Regulation RN 25-01 is proof that when people engage in the public process, their voices matter. Public comments, letters, phone calls, and testimony all became part of the conversation that helped shape this regulation.

We’re especially grateful to Michael Hickman for consistently showing up and using his voice throughout this process. Advocacy takes time, persistence, and commitment, and we appreciate those who continue to stand with individuals seeking meaningful review and second chances.

For Terry Pettis, this work has always been personal. This regulation may create an opportunity for review under California’s new framework, but the work doesn’t stop here.

The truth is, only a handful of people chose to get involved.

If Terry’s story has ever moved you, don’t just watch from the sidelines.

Whether you’re family, a friend, a former classmate, teammate, colleague, or simply someone who believes in meaningful review and second chances, your voice matters.

We need more people willing to write letters, attend hearings, share information, and advocate alongside us. Get involved!

REAL CHANGE STARTS WITH A DECISION.

Opportunity supports the journey.

A recent KPBS article by Joe Garcia, He Spent 19 Years in Isolation on Death Row. Then the Handcuffs Came Off, follows Johnny Morales and explores what life can look like after decades in extreme isolation. It also captures moments of connection, purpose, and community among others who are choosing a different path.

Among those pictured is Terry Pettis, whose commitment to mentorship, sports, and positive peer engagement has encouraged others throughout his incarceration. Those experiences have inspired Terry’s work on the Incarcerated Community Sports League (ICSL), a structured initiative focused on leadership, accountability, and teamwork.
