While foreign labor is being used to drive rates down through destructive competition, the bigger issue is what’s happening behind the scenes: a global disinformation campaign about a “driver shortage.”

There is no real shortage of qualified drivers — there is a shortage of fair pay and humane working conditions. Instead of fixing wages, safety, scheduling, and dignity on the job, the industry is being flooded with cheaper labor to protect profits at the expense of working drivers.
