Meet Brittney, a licensed therapist and proud mother to one. Her journey through pregnancy and motherhood was far from what she had expected.
Despite being a therapist herself, Brittney missed the signs of depression while she was pregnant. She experienced vanishing twin syndrome and hyperemesis, both intense challenges that took her focus away from the emotional toll she was silently facing.
While many talk about the joy of pregnancy and the "glow," Brittney was struggling. She was experiencing depression during her pregnancy, but it was easy to overlook because of everything else happening physically.
Postpartum, she didn’t experience depression, but she did have moments of anxiety, like the intrusive thoughts and fear of leaving her baby, even for a short shower. These feelings didn’t last long, but they still weighed on her.
What made Brittney realize that she wasn’t okay? When she started having thoughts of termination. That’s when she knew something needed to change.
Today, Brittney takes care of her mental health by doing therapy biweekly. It’s her way of ensuring that her well-being is a priority, not just for her, but for her family too.
You are not alone. The more we tell our stories, the more we stop feeling isolated. Pregnancy and motherhood aren’t always all butterflies and rainbows.
It’s important to share the hard moments too. We need to stop hiding the struggles and only showing the highlight reel.
Let’s start the conversation. If you’re struggling, if you’re experiencing anxiety, depression, or just feeling overwhelmed, know that you're not alone.
Share your story, and let’s continue breaking the silence around maternal mental health! 💬✨
