Affordable and attainable housing development faces bureaucratic barriers. A recent initiative in New York seeks to reduce the time from building to occupation, and we explore it in our latest blog.

Recent reforms in Dallas, including DallasNow, parking reform, and proposed zoning modernization, are steps forward. A question we must also raise in housing conversations is “How do we remove the friction preventing families from accessing the housing that already exists?”

Last weekend, DCH, participated in Saving Our Sovereignty: North Texas Organizing Summit, hosted by the DFW Urban League Young Professionals at Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, TX. This event united and educated North Texans around issues impacting our communities most in the next election cycle. Housing, healthcare, education, and criminal justice topics were discussed in the four-hour event, where DCH President Jason Brown was a featured panelist, and Kendyll Locke, DCH Board Member, was the panel moderator.

We would like to thank organizers, attendees, and fellow panelists for an inspiring morning.

Addressing housing affordability is making the front page, nationally and globally. Reuters recently reported even greater urgency in addressing America’s housing shortage. The U.S. currently faces a deficit of more than 4 million homes, driven by years of underbuilding and rising demand. Dallas is experiencing sustained growth at an uneven pace, and closing the housing gap must be scalable.

Join DCH for a recap of the Connected Communities Initiative in action. DCH is investing in the spaces and relationships that shape stronger neighborhoods:

• Career Day at Dallas ISD’s Biomedical Preparatory: Students learned about the development process, designed their own ideal city, and concluded with the students doing their own pitch to “city council”
• Family, Friends, and Community Partners Day at Smith Chapel A.M.E. Church: DCH supported them in raising $7,000 for critical needs in Southern Dallas
• Spring Break with LipGloss for Love, Inc. at the Queen City Block Party: A community event centered around building community, providing essential resources, and making lasting connections.

Classrooms, community gatherings, and places of worship; these trusted spaces are where real change begins.

Dallas-Fort Worth attracted more new residents in 2025 than any other metro in the country, and has been named the top real estate market to watch for the second consecutive year (CNBC). By 2033, the region is projected to add nearly 68,000 net new households, requiring an estimated 6,800 new homes annually just to keep pace with demand.

While supply is growing, it is not keeping pace with demand for workforce housing. Explore more about why economists are saying that Dallas is a market to watch, here and what that means for new development.
