🏀🌲 SCOUT FUN FACT! 🌲🏀

Before he was flying through the air on the basketball court, winning championships, and becoming one of the greatest athletes ever, Michael Jordan was a Scout! ⭐

Jordan was a member of Troop 24 in Wilmington, North Carolina. 🦅

Scouting helped teach him lessons that carried far beyond the trail and into the basketball court: leadership, teamwork, commitment, discipline, and setting goals.

Pretty cool reminder that the skills you learn in Scouting can take you just about anywhere! 🚀

So the next time you’re working on a merit badge, leading a patrol, learning a new skill, or pushing through something challenging, remember:

Your next big adventure might be bigger than you think. 💪

🌊🏕️ Troop 1390 Tubing Adventure Weekend! 🏕️🌊

What a weekend for Troop 1390! The weather may have tried its best to crash the party, but a few clouds and rain weren’t going to keep our Scouts off the Rappahannock River. 💦😎

The Scouts spent the weekend tubing, swimming, laughing, and making the most of every minute on the water. Between runs, there was plenty of football and Frisbee being tossed around, proving that apparently even a river isn’t enough to stop a Scout from turning everything into a game! 🏈🥏

And of course, no campout would be complete without a little Scoutmaster adventure. On one of the runs, a Scoutmaster’s tube decided it had completed its service to Scouting and popped! 😂 Thankfully, the Scoutmaster survived to tell the tale and the Scouts got a pretty good laugh out of it.

Rain or shine, the Scouts showed exactly what makes these trips so much fun: teamwork, adventure, friendship, and a willingness to make the most of whatever Mother Nature throws at us.

A huge thanks to everyone who helped make the weekend happen. The photos say the rest! 📸

Another great adventure in the books for Troop 1390! ⚜️💙

🎬 Scout Fun Fact!

What do Jaws, E.T., Jurassic Park, and Indiana Jones all have in common?

They all started with one creative Scout. 😎

Before he became one of Hollywood’s greatest directors, Steven Spielberg made his very first movie as a Boy Scout. He needed to complete a Photography Merit Badge requirement—but when his family’s still camera broke, he grabbed a movie camera instead.

That unexpected setback sparked a passion for filmmaking that would change movie history.

🚀 Sometimes the best adventures begin when things don’t go according to plan. Scouts learn to adapt, solve problems, and think creatively—skills that can lead anywhere.

Who knows? The next great inventor, filmmaker, engineer, or astronaut might be sitting around the campfire with Troop 1390 today.

🚨 Troop 1390 Fun Fact! 🚨

🇺🇸 During the 1913 Woman Suffrage Parade in Washington, D.C., thousands of marchers faced unruly crowds after local police struggled to keep order. Instead of standing by, about 1,500 teenage Boy Scouts stepped up.

They helped:
🩹 Provide first aid to injured marchers
🚑 Build and carry emergency stretchers
👥 Maintain order and assist where they could until help arrived

These young Scouts demonstrated courage, leadership, and service during one of the most significant events in American history—living the Scout Oath long before many of today’s Scouts’ grandparents were even born.

Being a Scout has never just been about camping and knots. It’s about being prepared to serve your community whenever you’re needed.

🦖 SCOUT FUN FACT! 🏕️

Did you know the only documented Tyrannosaurus rex footprint ever discovered was found at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico?

Even cooler? It wasn’t discovered by a famous paleontologist—it was found in 1983 by a Scout and a geologist who were mapping the ranch! The fossilized footprint measures about 14 inches long and is now preserved and on display at the Philmont Museum for visitors to see.

Philmont isn’t just one of Scouting’s most legendary high-adventure bases—it’s also home to incredible geology, wildlife, history, and even a piece of the dinosaur age! Millions of years before Scouts hiked those same trails, a mighty T. rex left its mark.

Talk about earning your footprint in history! 👣🦖

🤝 Scout Fun Fact!

Ever notice that Scouts shake hands with their left hand instead of their right? It’s not just a tradition—it’s a symbol of trust.

When Scouting founder Robert Baden-Powell met an African chief, the chief greeted him with his left hand. Why was that such a big deal? Because a warrior carried his shield in his left hand. Offering that hand meant setting aside his protection—a powerful sign of trust, courage, and friendship.

More than 100 years later, Scouts around the world still use the left-handed handshake to remind us that trust is earned, courage matters, and every Scout is part of a worldwide brotherhood.

Next time you see two Scouts greeting each other, you’ll know there’s a pretty awesome story behind it! ⚜️

🌊⛺ Flashback to July 2025! ⛺🌊

Who remembers our Troop 1390 adventure on the Rappahannock River? 🚣‍♂️☀️ Nothing beats spending a summer day floating down the river with good friends, plenty of laughs, and a little friendly competition over who could stay the driest (spoiler: nobody did! 😄).

From splashing through the rapids to relaxing on the calm stretches, it was the perfect reminder that some of Scouting’s best memories happen when you’re simply enjoying the outdoors together.

Take a trip down memory lane and check out some of our favorite moments from that unforgettable weekend! 📸

Think Harry Potter is popular? 🪄

Scouting for Boys, written by Lord Baden-Powell in 1908, has sold an incredible 150 MILLION copies worldwide! 🌎

That makes it the 4th bestselling book of all time, behind only:
📖 The Bible
📖 The Koran
📕 Chairman Mao’s Little Red Book

For more than a century, this one book has inspired millions of young people to explore the outdoors, serve their communities, build confidence, and become leaders. Pretty amazing for a book that started the Scouting movement over 100 years ago!

🏕️ Every campfire, hike, knot, service project, and adventure traces back to those pages—and Scouts like the ones in Troop 1390 continue that legacy today.

⚜️ SCOUT FUN FACT! ⚜️

Did you know that Gerald Ford is the first—and still the only—U.S. President to earn the rank of Eagle Scout?

Long before he served in the White House, Ford was living the Scout Oath and Scout Law, developing the leadership, service, and character that would help shape his future. His journey is a reminder that the skills learned in Scouting can lead to incredible opportunities—even becoming President of the United States!

Keep climbing, keep leading, and remember… today’s Scout could be tomorrow’s history-maker! 🏕️🦅🇺🇸
