FUN FACT: In 2014 the returned to be an Eagle Required badge since it was dropped (as Eagle Required) in 1972. Possibly not too exciting for those Life Scouts thinking they were 'done' with their Eagle required MBs around that late 2013 time frame. :-)
Today, outside of /District events or gradual individual efforts; some Units (Patrols) plan a day solely focused on and it can be lots of fun, especially when fellow Scouts are there to watch you do it and get a chance to critique each dish & presentation remembering that :-)
A fun day event offers a great opportunity to expand on , venture outside of the meatball subs, and enjoy a day chopping, rinsing, mashing, seasoning, stirring, baking, grilling, boiling, sautéing, searing, simmering, and TASTING real food for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and snack; all while preparing the food, washing dishes and following Principles.
We suggest that participating Scouts arrive to this event HUNGRY. Participating parents enjoy an afternoon watching their Scouts achieve all this in one single day and very impressed by the final dishes created that are (mostly) fully consumed by day's end. :-)
Once Scouts get beyond the sensory aspect of cutting raw chicken pieces; everything else is cream cheese! Some Scouts become (much) more confident in their cooking skills after a day event of continuous meal preparation.
