From helping grow wheelchair rugby in Saskatchewan to mentoring newcomers and creating community through sport, Braden Pettinger embodies the spirit of the Hal Merrill Community Impact Award 🏆

Presented annually at the Wheelchair Rugby National Championships, the award recognizes individuals who lead with humility, connection, and an unwavering commitment to supporting those around them, values that defined Hal Merrill’s legacy within Canadian wheelchair rugby 🍁

Congratulations to Braden Pettinger of Saskatchewan Wheelchair Sports Association on being named the 2026 recipient of the Hal Merrill Community Impact Award.

Led by athletes Ashley Munro and Kasey Aiello, the free event gave women in the community the opportunity to try wheelchair rugby in a welcoming and supportive environment. 🏐

This event was made possible through Community Sport for All funding from Sport Canada

Here’s the roster set to compete at the Richmond Olympic Oval from June 4–7.

Canada will take on Australia, Brazil, France, Great Britain, and Japan in their final international competition before the WWR World Championships this August! 🏐
