We’re proud to see Ecology Ottawa’s work highlighted in a recent Ottawa Sun story on tree giveaways and urban canopy growth across Ontario.
The piece underscores something we see firsthand: trees are essential climate infrastructure. They cool our neighborhoods, improve air quality, support biodiversity, and play a critical role in making our city more livable, especially in communities with less access to green space.
Since 2013, we’ve put over 60,000 tree seedlings into Ottawans’ hands, with a focus on increasing canopy where it's needed most. Through initiatives like our new Trees for Today program, we’re continuing to bring larger saplings directly into priority neighborhoods across the city.
This recognition reflects the collective effort of residents, volunteers, and community partners working together to grow a healthier, more climate-resilient Ottawa.

Ils rafraîchissent nos quartiers, améliorent la qualité de l’air, favorisent la biodiversité et jouent un rôle crucial pour rendre notre ville plus agréable à vivre, en particulier dans les communautés qui ont moins accès aux espaces verts.
Depuis 2013, nous avons remis plus de 60 000 jeunes arbres aux habitants d’Ottawa, en mettant l’accent sur l’augmentation de la canopée là où elle est le plus nécessaire. Grâce à des initiatives comme notre nouveau programme « Trees for Today », nous continuons à fournir des jeunes arbres plus grands directement aux quartiers prioritaires de la ville.
Cette reconnaissance reflète l’effort collectif des résidents, des bénévoles et des partenaires communautaires qui travaillent ensemble pour faire d’Ottawa une ville plus saine et plus résiliente face au changement climatique.
