The pediatric oncology camping community holds space for every part of the journey—including remembrance.

We honor the campers and loved ones whose lives continue to shape our communities. We remember their laughter, personalities, friendships, traditions, and the ways they made camp uniquely their own.

Grief and joy can exist together. Remembrance allows us to carry both.

Today, we hold close every family, friend, volunteer, and camp community remembering someone they love. 💛

Some friendships begin with an introduction. Camp friendships often begin with recognition “You understand.”

Pediatric oncology camps bring together children and families whose experiences may be different, but who often share feelings that can be difficult to explain elsewhere.

That sense of understanding can create meaningful relationships, reduce isolation, and help campers recognize that they are part of a larger community.

At camp, nobody has to navigate their experience alone.

This September, and all year round, COCA goes GOLD across all 8 regions. 💛

From one community to the next, COCA member camps and programs create spaces where children impacted by cancer can step away from appointments, treatments, and diagnoses and simply have the opportunity to be kids.

Across our 8 regions, our member camps may look different, but our purpose connects us: Creating joy, building belonging, supporting families, creating lifelong friendships, giving kids opportunities to discover what they can do and building communities that understand the childhood cancer experience!

Every campfire. Every friendship. Every laugh. Every courageous first. Every moment of feeling like a kid again.

It’s all part of something bigger.

Throughout Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we’re celebrating the camps, programs, volunteers, professionals, families, and—most importantly—the incredible kids represented throughout all 8 COCA regions.

Because childhood cancer doesn’t stop at state lines, provincial borders, or regional boundaries.

Siblings experience childhood cancer, too. Their routines change. Their families change. They may carry questions, worries, and emotions that are difficult to explain to friends who have not lived through the same experience.

Sibling camp programs create spaces where they can connect with others who understand, express themselves, try new things, and receive attention centered on their own experiences.

At camp, siblings are not standing beside someone else’s story. Their stories matter, too. 💛

At pediatric oncology camp, kids living with and beyond cancer are not defined by a diagnosis.

They’re swimmers, artists, performers, pranksters, athletes, leaders, friends—and so much more. Camp creates space for adventure, creativity, laughter, and the everyday experiences of childhood. It reminds campers that their story includes far more than appointments, treatments, and hospital rooms.

Sometimes the most meaningful thing camp can offer is also the simplest: A place where kids can just be kids. 💛

Pediatric oncology camp is more than a week away from home. It’s the moment a camper realizes they aren’t alone. It’s trying something new with people cheering them on. It’s friendships built through shared experiences—without anyone having to explain. It’s laughter, independence, belonging, and the freedom to let cancer take a back seat.

The memories may begin at camp, but the confidence and connections can continue long after everyone returns home. That is the lasting power of pediatric oncology camping. 💛

Why pediatric oncology camp?

Because children affected by cancer deserve opportunities to experience adventure, independence, friendship, and fun in spaces that understand their individual needs.

Camp creates a community where medical experiences do not require an explanation and where children can connect through everything they share—while also being celebrated for everything that makes them unique.

It is not about forgetting what they have experienced. It is about making room for everything else they can experience.
