💙Celebrating Value, Talent, and Inclusion! 💙

🌐🛎️In Civitan, Education & Employment of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is one of four core impact areas under our worldwide mission. The focus is being dedicated to opening doors so that everyone has the chance to learn, grow, and build a meaningful career. True community inclusion means ensuring people with IDD have equitable access to training, support, and real-world employment opportunities where their talents can shine.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), and this year’s theme —“Celebrating Value and Talent” — reminds us of the incredible skills and perspectives that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) bring to our workplaces and communities. Join us this month in advocating for inclusive workplaces and celebrating the power of a job!

You'll be able to learn more about one local program during our next club meetup on Thursday, October 22. We'll welcome Program Associate Amanda Humfress as our knowledge speaker who will talk about MS LIFT Resource & Referral Network at MSU Extension in D'Iberville! 🌐🥳🌐❤️🥳Happiest of Happy Birthdays to our Club Builder, Charter Life Member, and Club President Keith Wilson, MST (October 19)!

🐝Keith has been a member of Civitan International beginning as a Junior Civitan his senior year at St. Martin High School in 1999-2000. (He was also the first Buzzy the Yellowjacket mascot!) While an undergraduate, Keith joined Campus Civitan International at The University of Southern Mississippi in 2003, became a Club PR Director and later elected Club President in 2004, and was named Outstanding Campus Civitan in 2005. He then served on the International Growth & Development Committee for Campus Civitan from 2005-2007, and was the club builder and adviser for the former Ole Miss Campus Civitan Club at The University of Mississippi - Ole Miss in Spring 2007.

Since April 2007, Keith has been a Civitan member — first joining the former Biloxi-Edgewater Civitan Club where he served as President in 2008-2009. He helped charter the North Bay Civitan Club of D'Iberville & St. Martin in September 2010 as a certified club builder and has served as Club President since day one.

As of October 2026, Keith has sponsored 107 members into Civitan; he previously earned permanent member sponsorship team (MST) status. His involvement in growth includes helping build the former Bay St. Louis Civitan Club, which chartered in 2015, and helping charter the former Junior Civitan clubs at St. Martin Middle School in 2015 and Long Beach High School in 2014. He has helped lead the club to achieve Civitan's Honor Club status multiple times as well as the Civitan Candy Box Project's H.O.P.E. Award in 2012.

He has been recognized with a Civitan Club Honor Key from the North Bay and the Biloxi-Edgewater clubs as well as a District Honor Key from the former Magnolia District of Civitan International. The Magnolia District also recognized Keith as Outstanding Civitan for 2012-2013; an Outstanding Club President four times (three for North Bay and once for Biloxi-Edgewater); and an Outstanding First Year Civitan for 2007-2008!

🌐❤️🛎️🐚🦪MISSISSIPPI COASTAL CLEANUP: Hundreds of volunteers traversed beaches, bayous, and bays for the 2026 Mississippi Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, October 17. A few North Bay Civitans took time to volunteer from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. at two sites Coastal Mississippi. And, all walked away knowing that their time and efforts are keeping junk out of local watersheds!

Club President Keith Wilson and Rhonda Murray walked the water’s edge and along the parking area for the City of D'Iberville Marina under the Walter L. Nixon, Sr. drawbridge for I-110. Together, two buckets were returned full of litter! One bucket during the first hour contained about 3.78 lb. while a second bucket before things ended at 10 a.m. had nearly 4.38 lb.

Over in Ocean Springs, North Bay Civitan Joyce Shaw manned the cleanup site near the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory, Weeks Bayou, and along East Beach Drive. About 100 lbs of litter was removed at East Beach by 25 volunteers, Shaw reported.

Thank you to these amazing club members who volunteered between two and three hours, each!! Your efforts don’t go unnoticed!!! Until next time! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️
