Beach Blitz 2023 has officially ended and OA Robotics has ended this year’s off-season with a blue banner win at Beach Blitz! Thank you to our wonderful alliance partners and for such exhilarating matches! Thank you to all of the students, mentors, and parents that made this off-season possible. See you at the next competition!

“Let me draw you as a worm hehehehehe” - Emily Lee
Emily Lee has been a crucial part of Team 4079 and Team 19821 since 2017. Starting out as a general member, she held the position of Safety Captain in 2021-22 and served as our Programs Director this year. She manages our entire robotics program and we would be lost without her! Her favorite memory from robotics was “making the wormy wall and establishing dominance in all the newbie and underclassmen!!” She was able to achieve goals this year of driving to interesting places with her friends and implementing new activities for our robotics team, for example, starting workshops at elementary schools. “I truly made a home for myself at my years at robotics so any late-night meeting, every competition has been a good memory to me,” Emily says. Emily has committed to the University of California, Riverside in the fall. We’ll miss you so much, Emily! Please don’t forget to visit and don’t forget us!

Sufyan Asari has been a valued part of Team 4079 since 2018. Starting out as a general member he was now this year’s FTC Team 19821 Captain. Leading our team to victory in FTC meets and teaching the younger students, Sufyan has given a tremendous amount of support to our team. His favorite from robotics was when he “put together a robot intake in two days. It was the first time I ever put anything together for the team all by myself. It was so satisfying seeing it come together and work with the rest of the robot.” Sufyan has committed to California State Long Beach in the fall. We’ll miss you so much, Sufyan! Please don’t forget to visit often!!

Aaryan Gupta has been a valued part of Team 4079 since 2017. Starting out as a general member from 2017-18, he soon became one of our drivers in 2019. This year he was on our operations team as a Video Editor, helping create videos for our two teams including the Impact Awards video. Aaryan’s favorite memory from being in robotics was in 2019 and reaching finals at Beach Blitz as a driver. Aaryan has committed to California State Long Beach in the fall. We’ll miss you so much, Aaryan! Please don’t forget to visit.

Eric Vo has been a valued part of Team 4079 since 2017. Starting out as a general member, this year he was our Designer. Helping create designs for the robot he has had a vital part in our team. Thank you for all the time and commitment you have put into our team and for all your work. Eric has committed to Cypres College in the fall. We’ll miss you so much, Eric! Hello Everyone! Save the Date to our 2022-2023 Banquet! Next Saturday May 13th, 2023, OA Robotics will be hosting its 2023 Banquet! The Banquet will be from 5:30pm - 8pm at the AUHSD District Office. For students, it’s $20 and guests are $25. The attire is business casual (yellow, purple, blue, black, white). The reservation link will be in our bio. We can’t wait to see everyone there!

"No, don't do that!"

Fernando Rodriguez has been a dedicated member of OA Robotics since the 2016 school year. Part of the team for 6 years now, Fernando is someone who we owe a lot of the team’s strong foundation and growth to. Last year, he was FRC Captain and now serves as the OA Robotics Programs Director, guiding our team to success. Fernando’s greatest accomplishments as a part of FRC 4079 would be obtaining a leadership position at a young point in his career and becoming a captain the year after. Being a part of team leadership allowed him to view the team from a different perspective compared to working hands-on on the technical side of things. OA Robotics would not be what it is today without Fernando. As his final words to the team, Fernando says, “Don't be afraid to fail often as it takes several failures before success sits in, and once you achieve success don't sit on it, as the chair of success is unstable unless continually developed.” Fernando plans to go to Cypress College, and eventually transfer to UCI to pursue biology and an eventual career as a practicing physician. Thank you for all that you have done, Fernando, and we wish you the best of luck in your future.

Nathan Nguyen has been a devoted member of OA Robotics since the 2016 school year. As a member of the team for 6 years now, Nathan has been an encouraging leader essential to the foundation of our FRC 4079. Serving for two years as Head of Technical, Deputy Captain last year, and now OA Robotics’ very own FRC Captain, we don’t know what we would do without him. Some of Nathan’s greatest experiences on the team have been going on trips. From Houston Worlds in 2019, to AVR just recently, some really valuable memories have been made. Key moments in Nathan’s FRC journey have been meeting the founder himself, Dean Kamen, playing Valorant with the team, making it to Worlds, and even general FRC meetings. Achievement-wise, Nathan is proud of all the team’s placings, including (and not limited to) 2019 OCR Finalists, placings in the JPL Innovation Challenge, Quarter Finalists at Worlds (in the Carver Division), and most recently, 2022 AVR semi-finalists–with Nathan as FRC Captain and robot designer/builder. Nathan has recently committed to Kettering University to pursue Mechanical Engineering. Along with his major, Nathan is interested in a handful of programs Kettering has to offer. As of now, he has expressed interest in coming back to California during his co-op period, where he will either work with a company or mentor an FRC team. We thank you for all your work and wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. Come back to visit soon, Nathan!

Erin Lee has been a valued member of OA Robotics since 2017. Erin was a general software member for 3 school years, and served as a Public Relations member during the 2021-2022 school year. This year, Erin has been our beloved software lead, and we appreciate all the work she has done. Reflecting on her experience on the team, Erin says, “Although I do feel like I was not the most qualified software lead this year, I'm glad to have been a part of this wonderful program for the past 5 years. There were so many fond memories that I made in the past years, but my favorite would have been 5-stacking Valorant at AVR. Watching everyone grow into this program and leaving to become so successful is both inspiring and motivating. FRC is a family and will always have a special place in my heart, it is what sparked my interests in engineering whilst having fun. To my fellow graduating peeps: good luck y'alls and I hope we can meet up at future FRC events when we're all rich and famous and cool. And to the current scrubbies that will take over FRC: don't stalk people because that's weird, but have fun and breathe; time goes by so fast make sure to take a step back and enjoy our robots.” Erin has committed to UCI and plans to double major in Mechanical Engineering and Biology. Trung Nguyen has been a valued member of OA Robotics since 2019. Serving as team Secretary for two years, and now a general relations member, Trung has done a lot for FRC. When asked about one of his favorite moments while on the team, Trung said, “I thought it was really hecking cool when we made the first Robotics Newsletter in the 2019-2020. A lot of people worked on it and it turned out really well - it did take a bit too long though.” As for his future, Trung has committed to Williams College with an undeclared major and career. Trung says that unfortunately, this is a problem for Trung to worry about in the future. We’ll miss you, Trung! Don’t forget to visit.

Daemon Le has been a crucial part of Team 4079 since 2016. During the 16-17 school year, Daemon was an OA Robotics general member. Two years later, she was the team’s graphic designer. Last year, Daemon was a General Relations member, and now, they currently serve as FTC Operations Director, helping to manage the operations of the team from behind the scenes. Daemon’s key highlights from this past year have been, “Reviving the newsletter, making flyers, organizing the room, and I really enjoyed the little time I got to work on the robot cart or robot itself! Painting things was also super fun!” Daemon’s artistic skills and vision for better outreach has improved OA Robotics as a whole. Just recently, Daemon has committed to Georgia Tech for Materials Science and Engineering in the fall. She says, “Career-wise, I have no idea what I want to do but I’m leaning towards doing research and probably doing art on the side!” We’ll miss you so much, Daemon! Please don’t forget to visit.
