🎓 As your student gets older, their IEP team will start talking about which "exit document" they're working toward, and it's worth understanding the options well before it feels urgent. We break down the standard diploma, California's alternate diploma pathway, and the Certificate of Completion, plus an important note for Del Sol families: our program doesn't offer a diploma-track high school option, so students on that path transition back to public school before 9th grade. 💛

Over the last month, DSS has been transforming our library with comfy seating, cozy reading nooks, and a new organization system. Thank you to everyone who donated items and time to this project! đź“š

We’ve also been sending extra books home for students to keep, so they can build libraries of their own. Soon, we’ll be sending home information about our book exchange. Families can donate used books they no longer want, and we’ll send them home with another student to enjoy. 💛

This week our students ran their own pretend restaurant, taking turns as customers and employees. Behind the fun was real learning: taking orders, using money and a pretend credit card, listening carefully, and waiting their turn. We're also sharing other pretend play scenarios, like the grocery store, doctor's office, and even job interviews, and the real-world skills each one builds. đź’›

Today our students became real scientists and gardeners, planting seeds in a hydroponic garden that grows plants with just water and light, no soil needed!
