What a great day to be a Feral Dog of Pound 397! 🐾

We had an awesome Growl and the privilege of swearing in a brand-new mongrel—please join us in welcoming Pup Scott Becker to our pound! 🎉

A big shout-out to our Madam Pound Keeper, Jennifer Rooth, who kept everyone well fed with some top-notch Mardi Gras chow. 🌮🎭 Add in plenty of laughs, fun, and a little friendly mischief, and it made for a perfect gathering all around.

If you’re a stray looking for a new pound to call home, bark at us—we’d be happy to share the details. 🐶💬

Some thoughts on our event this weekend from one who was there...DD Curtis Cole.

Boots, Banter, and Brotherhood: A Day of Laughter and Legends

Yesterday wasn't just another day of volunteering; it was a masterclass in Marine Corps camaraderie, seasoned with a generous helping of "boot" jokes and the kind of laughter that only develops among those who've shared a certain green uniform. And, as your resident Wisecrack Warrior, I made sure to contribute my fair share to the hilarity.
We were at an event, slinging grub to a hungry crowd of volunteers, and the team for the day was a solid crew of fellow Marines. The air was thick with that familiar, comfortable banter – the kind where you can dish it out and take it, knowing it all comes from a place of shared experience. Every minute was an opportunity for a well-placed (or perhaps not-so-well-placed, depending on who you ask) quip, and I was in my element.
But the real magic happened in a quiet corner of the tent. Three Vietnam veterans, their eyes holding stories that most of us can only imagine, settled into a small circle. They didn't need any prompting; the reminiscing began organically. The rest of us, "younger" Marines instinctively gave them space. We kept the food lines moving, but our ears were subtly tuned in as they unfurled their war stories, their voices weaving a tapestry of "who was when where." It was a privilege to witness, a silent lesson in respect and history.
Then, the generational gap decided to make a comedic appearance. One of the younger Marines said something, and a quick, sharp, "Boot!" came from one of the older, wiser (and clearly less impressed) Marines.
And just like that, the floodgates opened.
"Boot!" "No, you're the boot!" "I was in before you even knew what a high-and-tight was!"
The argument quickly devolved into a hilarious contest of who was the "most boot" and, conversely, who was the "least boot" in the tent. It was pure gold, the kind of inside joke that had everyone within earshot chuckling. It became the running gag of the day, punctuating every task with a playful jab.
As the "boot" debate reached its crescendo, one of the Vietnam vets (who, by my informal assessment, was indeed one of the least boot Marines present, perhaps even the second least boot) caught my eye. A sly grin spread across his face, a spark of mischief dancing in his eyes. He didn't say a word, just started pointing, slowly and deliberately, at each of us, mouthing the word:
"Boot!!!!"
It was perfectly timed, perfectly delivered, and absolutely hysterical.
I know, I know – maybe you had to be there, maybe you had to wear the uniform, but for me, that moment encapsulated everything about being a Wisecrack Warrior. It's about finding the humor in the everyday, connecting through shared experiences, and respectfully sharing a laugh across generations of service. It's in those moments of genuine, unfiltered camaraderie that the spirit of the Corps truly shines.
Semper Fi, and keep those boots marching (or, you know, just sitting there reminiscing).
