Last Friday was filled with Halloween fun, laughter, and plenty of BOO-tiful memories at our annual Halloween party! 🎃🍬

It was such a treat to come together, share some laughs, and enjoy a little Halloween magic! No tricks here, just a whole lot of fun! 👻✨

A BIG thank you to Emmanuel Community Care Center for hosting us this year and helping make our celebration so special! We had a fang-tastic time! 🧡🖤

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage of the first responders, service members, and everyday heroes who acted with extraordinary bravery.

We hold the victims, survivors, and their families in our hearts and prayers. May we never forget—and may we continue to choose compassion, unity, and hope.

Last Friday, Humility of Mary Housing celebrated our third annual event with the Akron RubberDucks—and what a wonderful evening it was!

So many people stopped by our table to learn about our mission, speak with our team, take informational materials, and make donations. We were also happy to give our generous supporters small thank-you gifts as a token of our appreciation.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to connect with us and support the work we do. We met some truly wonderful people and enjoyed a fun night at the ballpark!

We cannot wait to return for our fourth year in 2027. See you next year! Akron RubberDucks⚾💜💛

On Monday, our team gathered for our summer potluck! We enjoyed delicious food, great conversations, and time together as a team. We also celebrated a few special birthdays!

Ohio's affordable housing crisis continues to grow.

A new report shows that a full-time worker in Ohio now needs to earn at least $23.82 per hour to afford a modest two-bedroom apartment. Unfortunately, many hardworking Ohioans earn far less, making safe and stable housing increasingly out of reach.

Our President & CEO, Fred Berry, was recently quoted in the Ohio Capital Journal:

"While we're helping many families get stably housed, even more are falling into homelessness every day. The lack of affordable housing is increasing the risk of homelessness and making it harder to get out of homelessness."

At Humility of Mary Housing, we witness these challenges every day. Through affordable housing and supportive services, we are committed to helping individuals and families achieve stability and hope—but there is still much work to be done.

Affordable housing isn't just a housing issue—it's a community issue.

Our CEO, Fred Berry, joined COHHIO and the Ohio Chamber of Commerce during the release of the 2026 Out of Reach Report, a national report produced in partnership with the National Low Income Housing Coalition, to discuss the growing affordable housing crisis in Ohio and its impact on homelessness.

As Fred shared, the gap between wages and rent continues to grow. In Akron, renters need to earn $24.38 per hour to afford a modest two-bedroom apartment, while the average renter earns only $17.61 per hour. For many families, one unexpected expense—a car repair, medical emergency, or accident—can quickly lead to housing instability.

Every day, Humility of Mary Housing works with individuals and families who are doing everything they can to remain housed, yet continue to face barriers because affordable housing is simply out of reach.

We are grateful to COHHIO for bringing attention to this critical issue and for the opportunity to share what we are seeing firsthand in our communities.

Humility of Mary Housing was honored to join our valued partners, community leaders, funders, and service providers for the groundbreaking celebration of Broadway Commons, a new 62-unit affordable housing community that will serve veterans and individuals at risk of homelessness.

Our CEO, Fred Berry, was proud to be part of this special milestone as we celebrated the beginning of a project that reflects the power of collaboration and a shared commitment to expanding access to safe, stable, and affordable housing.

When Broadway Commons opens, Humility of Mary Housing will provide housing stability services through our dedicated case management team, helping residents build strong foundations for long-term success and independence.

We are incredibly grateful to partner with organizations that share our vision of strengthening communities and creating opportunities for those most in need. Together, we are doing more than building housing—we are creating hope, stability, and brighter futures for our neighbors.

Congratulations and thank you to all of the partners, funders, and community leaders who made this project possible. We look forward to welcoming residents home in Fall 2027.

Juneteenth serves as a reminder of the ongoing pursuit of freedom, equality, and opportunity for all. It is a time to reflect on our shared history, celebrate progress, and recommit ourselves to building communities where every individual is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.

At Humility of Mary Housing, we believe that safe, stable housing and supportive services create pathways to opportunity and help strengthen communities. As we honor Juneteenth, we also recognize the importance of continuing to work toward a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
