Strive for 5 is a great program to help build the Cut Bank Community Foundation's permanent endowment and establish other "grantable" funds for community projects.

At the Montana Community Foundation, we believe the future of our communities is built by the people who care deeply about them.

Through our Strive for 5 initiative, we invite Montanans to consider a simple but powerful idea: leaving just 5% of their estate to the places and causes that shaped their lives. You don’t need to be a millionaire to make a lasting impact—small, intentional gifts can help ensure our parks, schools, libraries, and local programs continue to thrive for generations.

With an estimated $37 billion expected to transfer between generations in Montana by 2030, even a modest commitment could result in billions invested back into our communities—supporting nonprofits, education, and local initiatives year after year.

This is about more than giving. It’s about legacy, stewardship, and keeping Montana strong for the future.

Learn how you can be part of this movement and make a lasting difference.

Cut Bank Community Foundation's Jim Woodring was invited to take part in this podcast and share the journey and mission of the CBCF as it continues to build its permanent endowment and contribute to community projects.

Montana Community Foundation is proud to be part of the conversations shaping the future of our state.

Recently, Jim Bennett and Heather Ohs joined MCF partners Jim Woodring of the Cutbank Community Foundation and Kendra Owens of the Eagle Family Fund in West Yellowstone. Together, they shared insights on how collaborative philanthropy is building stronger communities across Montana. They were also joined by Ariel Overstreet of Bluebird Law in Billings, who spoke about the important role estate planning plays in creating a lasting legacy.

Many people want to make a meaningful impact but aren’t sure where to begin. At MCF, we work alongside trusted professional advisors in tax and estate planning to help individuals and families turn their values into lasting community investments. By pooling resources, identifying critical needs, and supporting effective organizations, we help ensure that generosity today creates opportunity for generations to come.
