đź’š A Message to the Cushing Community from Cushing Pride Recycling đź’š
Over the past nearly five years, Cushing Pride Recycling has been proud to serve this community and work together to keep recyclable materials out of the landfill. What started as a grassroots effort quickly became something bigger because of the support, passion, and participation of so many people in Cushing and the surrounding areas.
Recently, we received difficult news that our recycling service partner, Replenysh, has elected to cease service and provided us with less than three weeks’ notice to find alternative arrangements. Friday we learned our recycling material drop-off partner, Fertile Ground, will no longer be accepting our materials. Because Replenysh was the reason our program could operate free of charge and Fertile ground was where our items were dropped off, these changes have effectively dismantled all components of the system that allowed the program to exist in its current form.
Since receiving this notice, Laura Green, along with Chandler Recycles founder Tony Wilson, have been working diligently to explore possible solutions. Unfortunately, the short timeline has made it extremely difficult to solidify any option that would allow the program to continue free and fully transparent for the community.
We want to acknowledge and thank the City of Cushing, who has been instrumental in helping us get into meeting rooms with potential partners and explore other possibilities. Their willingness to help has meant a lot during this challenging transition.
Another factor impacting the program has been a decline in volunteer participation. As a community-driven initiative, volunteer support has always been essential to keeping the program operating smoothly. As those numbers have dwindled, it has also placed additional strain on the resources available to sustain the program thus the reason for cancellation of the event today.
While this is certainly not the update we hoped to share, we want the community to know this is not the end of the conversation. We are proud of what Cushing Pride Recycling and it’s community have built together over the last five years, and we will continue working to identify potential solutions that could bring recycling opportunities back to Cushing in the future.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the program, volunteered their time, recycled faithfully, and believed in the mission. This community effort has always been about more than recycling—it’s about people working together to make Cushing (and the world) better.
As always, thanks for having pride in Cushing and for supporting the dream the last 5 years. We hope this is a “see ya later” and not an official “goodbye”. We will continue to keep the community updated as we explore next steps.
All the best,
Cushing Pride Recycling
