Today is MLK day! Did you know it was Pennsylvanian senator Harris Wolford who co-authored the bill creating the King Holiday and Service act. So if you have the day off, do something as pleasant as walking a trail and picking up litter, or get gritty helping at the recycling plant. Whatever you do, honor the memory of Reverend King, and reach out somewhere to help. Try to be Living Greener every day but some are more important than others and this is one!

A year ago we were excited to announce that Headwaters Charitable Trust was awarded TWO grants. One of them for the amount of $251,400 on behalf of the Toby Creek Watershed Association from the DEP Growing Greener Grant. The other grant was for a sum of $231,134 that was/will be used in the Johnstown Inclined Plane Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) Treatment ID and Design project on behalf of the Growing Greener Grant as well!

It was and still is a a great opportunity for us!

If you do not bring your own ammunition, 12, 16, or 20 gauge ammunition will be supplied. All other gauges must be supplied by the participant. Shells for games and warm-ups are not included. Please bring your own, or you can purchase 12, 16, & 20 gauge shells at the lodge. Price is $8 per box of 25 shells. Waivers must be signed prior to event participation. Awards will be given to the top 3 teams, and top 3 individual scores. Mulligans will be available for purchase throughout the event and can be used at any station. One mulligan allows for 2 shots to redo the volley at any station. Please notate mulligan use on your score sheet. If you run out of mulligans, they will be available for sale along the course. Mulligans are only sold as a set of 3 for $25 and may be purchased throughout the day. Mulligans are not transferable to other shooters. Price includes lunch, dinner, happy hour, and drinks. Scoring will be based on the honor system— shooters are responsible for keeping track of their own scores. It is recommended that proper shooting attire is worn for the proper gun and mounting safety.

Ever think about how much water is on the earth? There’s a lot of it with all the oceans, rivers, streams and groundwater that’s deep down. Actually there’s 326 million trillion gallons of this liquid stuff on the planet. With so much water, why is there a push for water conservation? 97% of the water on earth is salt water. Only about three percent of earth's water is freshwater. Of that, only about 1.2 percent can be used as drinking water; the rest is locked up in glaciers, ice caps, and permafrost, or buried deep in
the ground. In August we celebrate National Water Quality Month. Protecting our water resources and educating ourselves about water quality is an important goal for this month. When the water in our rivers, lakes, and oceans becomes polluted; it can endanger wildlife, make our drinking water unsafe, and threaten the waters where we swim and fish. Benjamin Franklin once said “when the well is dry, we know the worth of water”. We can’t make water because all the water that will ever be is, right now on earth. We use water everday and without it we can’t live. So during the month of August we will focus on the importance of water and how we can take care of this precious resource

A couple days ago was National Nonprofit day. If you dont know what a nonprofit is/does, a nonprofit is a legal entity organized and operated for a collective, public or social benefit, in contrast with an entity that operates as a business aiming to generate a profit for its owners.

HOFFMAN APPALACHIAN HOPS FARM FUNDRAISER TOUR CANCELLED.

We had to make the hard decision to cancel the Hops tour due to Covid. Numbers are rising and although it is ‘safe’ to be outside during these times we did not want to take any chances.
Being outdoors is good for both physical and mental health. We encourage everyone to spend time outside daily. Due to numbers going up, do so in a safe manner. Social distance with anyone not in your family, wear a mask if not, sanitize regularly, etc. If you feel sick STAY HOME! Be safe and enjoy the open-air!
