As we move through the Christmas season, a time rooted in reflection and goodwill. It is worth remembering that like any office, department, or organization, we are perfectly imperfect. The expectation that officers operate at 100% perfection, 100% of the time, is neither realistic nor wise. What truly matters is integrity, accountability, and a genuine commitment to doing the right thing. I can say with absolute certainty that the percentage of officers who choose to do the right thing far outweighs those who do not, by a margin many may never fully realize. Trust me, it (doing the right thing) happens even when no one is looking.

Growing up immersed in criminal justice and officially serving the community for 28½ years, I have seen plenty then and now. I can say with confidence that this profession is overwhelmingly carried by men and women who wear the uniform with honor, humility, and a truly selfless sense of purpose. They show up, do the work, and carry the weight of the badge the right way. And yes, every profession has those who eventually learn this calling is not for them or require constant redirection (every workplace has a few, you know who they are). That is not a failure though; it is the system working. Because this job doesn’t need perfection it needs character, commitment, and people willing to rise to the responsibility.

Please take a moment to thank first responders when you see them. This time of year, as we approach the end of 2025, is a perfect reminder to simply wave with all fingers (not just one) or say hello and thank you. Even when you don’t always agree, know this. They will still show up, still hold the line, and still be there for you when it matters most. 💙
