Our newest board member, Sandhana Siva, was recently quoted in the San José Spotlight! Sandhana is a student at SJSU studying Urban Planning, and we are so excited to have her on her team to share her valuable insight.

The project referred to in this article is a Builder’s Remedy (SB 330) development planned in the Scofield area. Many residents have expressed their dissatisfaction with the project. Sandhana explains that the project only exists due to Cupertino’s delay in passing a state-certified Housing Element, and expresses her hope for an ambitious implementation of affordable housing in Cupertino.

What an incredible day of fun, action, and optimism for a transit-oriented, walkable, bikeable, and housing-rich Stevens Creek Corridor. We were lucky to be joined by Winter Consulting, who will be taking participants' feedback from the transit experience DIRECTLY to the VTA board as part of their high capacity transportation study to re envision the corridor.

Thanks to all who had fun in the sun with us–taking the bus together, while also participating in a fun scavenger hunt. Someone counted 19 car dealerships along the corridor 😬imagine how much more community-oriented and PEOPLE-oriented we could make Stevens Creek together.

This is what democracy looks like!

Wait!?

You’re telling me I can take transit with fellow advocates, while also shaping the future of the Stevens Creek Corridor, which runs from De Anza College all the way to Downtown San Jose? 😱

That’s right! Come join us Saturday, April 27 for a guided bus tour, scavenger hunt, with free lunch included! Your feedback about how to improve Stevens Creek will directly impact the decision-making process as the cities of San Jose, Cupertino, and Santa Clara work together to re-envision how the corridor could better promote transit, walking, and biking, while also stimulating more housing, retail, and community.

Our tentative schedule:
10am—Meet in front of the Student Services building (by Parking Lot A)
10:30am—Take Line 23 (10:31 departure) going East—toward Alum Rock
10:40-11am—Pit stop at Main Street Cupertino (10:37 stop). Get back on @ Stevens Creek/Finch Ave at 11:05.
11:30am—Arrive at Santana Row for lunch + hangout. Informational session on corridor and community feedback time.
12:50pm—Take the 523 Rapid (12:53 departure) and return to De anza College at 1:13pm.

Thanks to all the community members who joined us last night for our Foundations of Affordable housing informational session, in partnership with West Valley Community Services and SV@Home.

Dozens of neighbors got to learn about the importance of affordable housing–what it actually means, how we plan for it, how we finance it, and how we will ensure thousands of new affordable homes will be built right here in Cupertino.

Looking ahead, there will be a $10-20 billion bond on the November ballot, and we look forward to joining numerous organizations across the state to ensure its passage!

Please join us in-person at the Quinlan Community Center on Thursday, March 21 in partnership with SV@Home and West Valley Community Services.

We know that Cupertino and our surrounding community has a big problem—housing costs are out of control, homelessness is on the rise, and we have created a highly exclusive city that our teachers, firefighters, service workers, students, and librarians cannot afford to be part of.

Affordable housing is a term that gets tossed around a lot, but what actually goes into making it feasible?

Learn from the experts on the finances, challenges, and opportunities in the affordable housing world, and how we could finally get large sums of new homes at more income levels right here in Cupertino.
