🎨 FALC Announcement!

🎨 Meet our Featured Artist for June 2026 β€” Geetika Bansal! We are delighted to recognize her remarkable creativity and artistic achievements.

✨ About the Artist:
Geetika is a San Francisco- Bay Area, California based artist whose work is inspired by quiet, fleeting moments observed in everyday life. Drawn to subtle details- the shifting sky, softened expressions, or the gentle presence of nature-she translates these impressions into layered acrylic, oils and mixed media paintings. Her practice spans florals, landscapes, animals, and portraits, unified by a calm, intimate visual language. Through bold and vibrant colors, and thoughtful compositions, her work evokes a sense of liveliness and emotional connection. Geetika has been painting since childhood, exploring a wide range of surfaces and mediums before refining her current style. She is an active member of the Fine Art League of Cupertino and a recipient of the Mayor’s Choice Award at the 2025 Fall Festival. Her work has been exhibited at the Cupertino Library, Quinlan Community Center, and Red Rock Coffee, Mountain View. She also teaches art to children and conducts workshops for adults. Three of her artworks β€” Dancing in the Sun, Charming Bloom, and When the Sea Breathes are currently being exhibited at the Euphrat Museum of Art at De Anza College.

Originally from Pune, India, Smruti Kurse established her artistic foundation at the prestigious β€œSir J.J. Institute of Applied Art” & β€œInstitute of Applied Arts” in Mumbai, India. After relocating to the United States in 1995 and navigating a successful corporate career, she eventually pivoted to focus on her family, working with a non-profit organization (US Hindi Foundation), and community service β€”a transition that profoundly enriched the perspective she brings to her canvas today Smruti’s work reflects her daily experiences and a deep contemplation of life’s authentic beauty. She masterfully adapts her medium to the soul of her subject: utilizing the meticulous heat of pyrography to etch moments in wood, the dramatic values of graphite and charcoal to explore light and shadow, or the vivid precision of colored pencils to capture life’s vibrancy. In contrast, her oil paintings offer a shift toward a more fluid, impressionistic style. This versatility allows Smruti to choose the perfect "voice" for every concept, resulting in a body of work that is as diverse and layered as the life experiences that inspire it.

✨ Celebrating Denise Howard ✨

The Fine Arts League of Cupertino (FALC) is proud to feature Denise Howard, a talented artist whose creativity, passion, and unique artistic vision beautifully inspire our community. Her expressive artwork and dedication to the arts reflect both imagination and heart, making her artistic journey truly special.

Denise Howard grew up in rural Missouri surrounded by animals and nature. She started drawing as soon as she could hold a pencil, and her world revolved around her art until she finished college. She earned a B.A. in Art and a B.S. in Math/Computer Science concurrently from Truman State University, and later an M.S. in Computer Science from Ohio State University, focused on computer graphics. She worked for several Silicon Valley companies, was one of the developers of iPhoto at Apple, and earned movie credits on Antz and Shrek at PDI/Dreamworks. Software engineering left little time or energy for creating art for 25+ years.

Finally the urge to return to her art became too strong to ignore, so she began committing the time to pursue it as a second career. She has received local, national and international recognition for her realist colored pencil and graphite work. She is the author of "101 Textures in Colored Pencil"(Quarto Publishing). She has Master Pencil Artist Status (MPAS) with the Pencil Art Society (PAS). She is national Communications Director of the CPSA. She is a 15-year merit signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America (CPSA), and a gold signature member of the United Kingdom Coloured Pencil Society (UKCPS). She is president of the CPSA.

Join us in celebrating Denise and her outstanding contribution to the world of art. 🎨

My work revolves around creating unique monoprints using acrylic paint and a Gelli plate, emphasizing spontaneity and the interplay of color, shape, texture, and value. Guided by creativity and imagination, my process embraces imperfection and allows for instinctive responses. Layers, mark-making, and the organic interaction of paint and pressure bring each piece to life, blending control with surrender and intention with chance. The result is emotionally resonant artwork that celebrates movement, freedom, and the beauty of impermanence, inviting viewers to connect with the immediacy of the creative process. http://www.kimholl.com www.PortolaArtGallery.com
