Raise your hand if you are so tired of this virus. Yes, I see BOTH of your hands in the air! We are praying for an effective vaccine sooner rather than later!
We know most families have been sheltering at home the past 6 months. After this hot summer, when the first cool breeze of Fall is in the air, they are going to want to get outside and get moving!
Beginning Oct. 1 through Oct 31, we are challenging families to get moving....anyway that works for them! Hence, The Forsyth BYOT iChallenge!
www.runsignup/BYOT
We have a website (above) that everyone, young and old, can go to register their contact information, choose a school to support (or if you don't have an affiliation to a school, you can just choose "Friends of BYOT").
Then, everyone will add their time to the website after an activity. They can do as much or as little as they want. It is for the whole month of October. Of course, we are expecting everyone to be honest on the times they log in.
ANY type of activity that gets people moving is counted. You can run, hop, skip, jump, swim, hoolahoop, play HORSE with others in your backyard with your basketball goal, stroll the baby, play twister with friends, yoga, jog, lift weights, walk up and down stairs, soccer practice, play at the playground....any type of activity that is above and beyond what they do day to day. If you are very physical at their jobs, then that shouldn't count. This is extra effort.
On our page, you can add a picture doing an activity (as well has other social media outlets). We are planning to have a local trainer and business owner (with kids in Forsyth schools), Andrew Abernathy, to encourage the ones who post pics on FB, give short activity lessons, and mainly be a motivational Coach for us all. He will also CHALLENGE us all to challenge others!
We hope to get some local celebrities to post some pics too...maybe some funny ones! And we encourage EVERYONE to take pics and short videos and put them on our page!
It only costs $25 for an adult and $15 for kids 10 and under, and everyone gets a shirt delivered to your door! You may go ahead and register, but the actual event doesn't start until Oct. 1.
PLEASE encourage/challenge others to register too!!
At the end of the month, there will be lots of winners and prizes and awards!
We are so excited about this because everyone can add some type of activity to their day or weekend....and it can be a family affair with no worry of being in crowds! And, if you CHALLENGE 5 others to sign up (using your special code you receive when you sign up), you get your entry fee back!
There are sponsorship opportunities too. Please ask us about that! Your logo will be on the shirts everyone gets, as well as any printed materials and on the websites. Plus, all sponsors get some free entries! You have an opportunity to have your business name or YOUR name in front of thousands!
There has never been a time when students have needed technology as much as they do now. Dr. Beaden, Superintendent of Forsyth County Schools said:
“Last spring, the pandemic forced our school system to go 100% online instruction. If not for The Forsyth BYOT Benefit, we would not have been able to meet the needs of all of our students. Over the years, the Forsyth BYOT Benefit has raised more than $300,000. This huge sum of money has enabled us to purchase devices and connectivity for families in need. We needed it last spring more than ever. We need it just as much now. As we enter a new school year that is fraught with uncertainty, we must be prepared. ‘Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.’ Forsyth County Schools will be ready for any scenario. Unfortunately, we are not able to have our annual iRun this fall. That does not mean we don’t have needs. We do. I ask all who can, to please contribute. Your donations help us meet the demands of our most vulnerable population. We are all in this together. And, together, as a community, we must meet the needs of all of our children. Thank you for your continued support of the Forsyth BYOT Benefit and Forsyth County Schools.”
Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
Thank you so much for your support!
