For those who are wondering we are going to forego the lecture this Monday. There has been a long-going episode that has tied me up and left me a bit washed out. Hopefully, on Tuesday things will work out and I can get back to serving the Bell Center and the Friends of the Bell Center. In the mean time stop by if you get a chance. There's plenty of room, we can stay 10 feet apart if you like.

For the Bell Center lecture we're going to do a topic a little unusual. I am going to talk about two tragic events that occured close to home. The tragic deaths of the Bailey sisters of Cu***ng and the Crash of the Southern Atlantic locomotive near Sugar Hill resulting in the deaths of Ben Dewberry and Mayson Wadkins. The first was a result of alcohol and lead poisoning leading to a double homicide. The other, a large bolt on the tracks just to see what a crash would look like. Come on by, there's room for twenty even if you keep your distance. 7:00 PM Monday, September 14.

I see the flyer didn't post so I'll take another shot at it. This is for the lecture on Monday, August 10, regarding Horace King.

Facebook is acting up and I don't know if the first flyer will ever come around so I'll start over. Our next lecture will be August 10, Monday, at 7:00 P.M. I'll be telling the story of Horace King, Bridge Builder, who was born in 1807, a tri-racial slave, in South Carolina. He literally went from their to the Alabama State-House but his careel was building bridges of which he was a master. Come by the Bell Center and share in his great story.

About 5 years ago the Bell Center purchased a scrapbook from Lt. Col. Lovick Pierce Thomas. Fellow Board member Cliff Roberts suggested that we use the material and write a book. The project morphed into a history of the 42nd Ga. and after a lot of work we now have the fruits of this labor. We were to present a program for SCV 1642 but this month has now been canceled. As of now I do have books at the Bell Center, $35.00 each. I have a few signed by both Cliff and myself and you can always bring them in for personal signatures when Cliff comes over from Charleston. Mercer published the book and it should be on Amazon by now.

This Saturday at 7 PM at the Bell Center we will have a live music program with Spontaneous Cracker Eruption. This is the initial program for the Bell Center but we hope to do this on at least a monthly schedule. SCE is a duo with guitar and vocals. Their song lists is represented by the 30's through the 50's and can jump across all areas of American music.

The Bell Research Center is going to present "Across the Wide" as the official opening of our music series. We hope that we can provide music and entertainment on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. I specifically asked for "Across the Wide" because of my respect for Mark's guitar work and the long history of Forsyth County musicians who make up his family history. Support the Bell Center and have a great evening. Questions: 678-455-7216 from 10 AM to 2 PM.
