🎉A huge local success story! 🎉

Congratulations to Save The Cedar River for stopping the asphalt plant AND getting the land turned into a County park!

Let’s use this big win for our region as motivation to keep the momentum going for the Cumberland Mine opposition near the Green River. The proposed Cumberland Mine is a gravel mine AND asphalt plant.

Join us in our efforts to help stop the Cumberland Mine and turn it into a park!

See DefendCumberland.org for info and to donate

After nearly a decade of back-and-forth over a proposed asphalt plant along the Cedar River, the property at the center of the fight.

We are at the Duwamish River festival today! 12-5 at People’s Park in South Park.

Today also marks starts our next phase focused on outreach and fundraising. Usually we are at events near the Middle Green River, but today we are at the other end of the watershed. All parts of the Green-Duwamish River could be impacted by the Cumberland Aggregate Mine and Asphalt Plant so we are expanding our outreach with the help for our wonderful community.

Thank you to everyone who submitted comment letters! We appreciate all of your efforts!

King County will officially close the public comment window for the EIS scoping tomorrow, August 7th by end of day!

If you haven't sent in your letter yet, now is the time.
This is our only official window to demand that King County require deep, site-specific studies on how this proposal could impact our community, from groundwater and local streams to air quality, traffic, and surrounding ecosystems. We need to ensure the County requires real scientific data, not generic assumptions.

How to submit your letter:

1. Check out our template comment letter and how to instructions at the link below. You can write as much or as little as you'd like. This is your chance to inform them of what needs to be studied

https://defendcumberland.org/resources/

2. Add your name and physical home address (including your physical address is crucial establishing standing as a Party of Record!).

3. Email your letter directly to the folks in step three of the instructions! Make sure to CC us and anyone else you think should know!

Every single email sent is a formal demand for accountability and rigorous environmental review. Let’s flood their inbox and finish strong

The energy in the room was incredible, and your generosity completely blew us away. First off, you raised $251 in donations! Every single dollar of that goes directly into this fight and helps with outreach, printing materials, and so much more.

Second, We also want to send a huge, specific shout out to Chief Hayman of the Enumclaw Fire Dept.. The Chief took time out of his evening to show up, sit with us, and truly listen to the community’s concerns about how this project will impact our local roads, infrastructure, and safety if approved. Having local leadership in the room willing to hear us out means the world to all of us.

You all proved exactly why Cumberland is worth fighting for. But the work isn't done yet!

And third, 🚨 REMINDER: The deadline to submit our EIS scoping comments to King County is August 7th. 🚨

If you haven’t submitted yours yet, please hit the link in our bio/comments to grab our technical comment templates. Customize it how you see fit and send it in!
