Cumberland K9 has had a very busy month. 5 searches so far (3 last week alone) and one more scheduled. So proud of how the K9s have worked but really pleased with the way the young ones, Evie and Allee, have stepped up.

Today we said our final goodbyes to an awesome detective we have worked with many times. We met him first on the Baby Joe Clyde Daniel’s case. Trevor walked many a mile with River and Millee looking for Baby Joe’s remains. Trevor will be greatly missed by all who knew him. I know Baby Joe was waiting with open arms at the gates of heaven.
Rest in Peace Trevor til we meet again. We will take it from here.

Scent detection isn’t just about the trained final response 🐾🐕‍🦺

Scent detection isn’t just about the final response, it’s about everything the dog shows us throughout the search.

Each subtle change in body language, breathing rate , movement direction and speed, the problem solving, the thoughtful pause builds layer upon layer, like a cake forming as the search unfolds. 🍰

When we learn to read those layers, we start to truly understand how the dog is working the odour, not just where they finish.

The trained final response (TFR) is simply the cherry on too, visible and important, but is only a small part of everything that came before

Saturday we ran some training sessions with the K9’s, we worked on building search, rubble pile, and open area search. We worked with 6 dogs all way from River age 10 to Mocha at 4 months. Even at Rivers age he is always up for a swim!

Today, we had the pleasure of doing a SAR K9 presentation and demonstration. Thank you Denise Steverson for inviting us to speak with some high schoolers at Pleasantview Christian School. The students were engaging. River and Charlee were as usual, superstars. We really enjoyed our morning. Thanks-

Great day to do some training.
