Drop an emoji below if you'd love your kid to come home eager to try whatever you are making for dinner that night. 🫢 is really prioritizing freshly made, nutritious food for twice the number of elementary students we have at MSAD51.

They have approximately 1450 elementary kids across 3 schools and they have a staff committed to making sure the kiddos are being served nutritious, freshly made foods. Right now they are running through the vegetable alphabet in creative, delicious ways to introduce kids to many vegetables.

Falmouth and Yarmouth have figured out how to source from local farms and how to vary the menu. They are also making a lot of food from scratch! We can do this but it starts with parents who take the time to email and call the food directors and school board.

We genuinely think it's a good first step that the district added lots of fresh fruits and vegetables but most little kids aren't going to choose whole fruit over sugar packed baked goods in colorful plastic packaging.

We know this is an uphill battle but it's 2023 and we know how much food affects health and brain development. We are asking that these things be more central to the food ordering process.

The prepackaged banana bread, blueberry muffin, wow butter/ jelly and Bosco sticks are sending us down this path.

This isn't a stop at a gas station during a long road trip, this is school breakfast and lunch.

And yes, we know that most kids love this stuff but is it okay for them to be eating twice a day 5x a week? Is this brain fuel?

Maybe we can't make it "perfect" but we can do a lot better.
