Great day on the water for the MYC Sunfish Regatta. Lots of boats and lots of fun. Thanks to the team from Culver Summer Schools for bringing out a big group.

(James) Jim Baker passed away last night-July 18. Mark Baker, his son notified us that they were with Jim Baker until 11:00 PM last night. He passed away peacefully during the night. He was Commodore in 1971. He wanted to be buried with his Commodore’s patch. We invited him to the Commodore’s party, I think 3 years ago. He was happy to be back in Culver.
He was a very talented Interior Designer for many years. Jim was 97 years old.

If anyone is interested in racing on lake max then jump on our sailors WhatsApp group. You can ask to crew, learn how to run races and see what it takes to race your own scow on lake max. Or we have our Sunfish Regatta on July 25th which is open to anyone and any boat under 16feet.

A great weekend to break in the new Committee Boat. 5 C’s and 8 MC’s came out. We are lucky to have this new boat. A few more fine tune items but it performed well. We used most of the flags and other than a little rain Sunday and no breeze Monday, it was a great way to start off the summer.

Thanks to Smokercraft, Culver Marina, Marshall County Community Foundation and all the contributors to make this happen.

Huge thanks to the Marshall County Community Foundation and the Ralph C. Vonnegut Jr. Fund for their generous support! Their grant is helping us purchase a new pontoon boat to improve race management and boost our sailing programs on Lake Maxinkuckee.
