Big milestone for Culver City schools.

Our parent- and community-led volunteer effort officially submitted 4,230 signatures in support of placing the CCUSD sliding-scale parcel tax initiative on the November ballot, with 2,912 signatures required. This is a historical event in Culver City with a fully volunteer run signature-gathering effort, powered by neighbors, parents, educators, and community members coming together for our schools.

The next step: signature verification. Los Angeles County has 30 days to validate the signatures, and we are grateful to everyone who helped us build a strong cushion.

This effort has always been about stable, locally controlled funding for Culver City schools, with community oversight, transparency, and a plan to protect strong educational opportunities for our students.

Thank you to every person who signed, volunteered, hosted a clipboard, canvassed, shared a post, or helped move this forward.

Strong Schools. Strong Culver City.

We are in the final stretch.

Our team is organizing petition sections, reviewing our signature packets, and preparing everything for filing with the County elections office.

And the big news: we reached our signature goal.

The official count and verification process will happen through the County, but reaching this milestone is a major step forward for our campaign.

This effort has shown how deeply our community believes in Culver City schools. Parents, residents, educators, business owners, and neighbors have stepped up because they know strong schools help build a strong Culver City.

Thank you to everyone who signed, volunteered, hosted, shared, encouraged, and helped move this initiative forward.

More updates coming soon as we prepare for the next step.

What does real school funding accountability actually look like?

Culver City’s sliding scale parcel tax initiative includes something most school funding measures don’t: a Planning and Oversight Committee built for independence from the start.

Most oversight committees review spending after decisions are already made. This one is different. Before the District adopts its annual budget, the committee presents a comprehensive Annual Spending Plan covering all available revenues and spending priorities, presented publicly before a single dollar is committed. The District must then track actual spending against that plan, and if there are significant deviations, it must provide specific public explanations. The plan cannot simply be ignored.

Yes, the committee is advisory, not a decision-making body. But that means the District retains final authority while being required to justify its choices publicly, in writing, every year. Reports must include clear financial information, plain-language summaries, and an easy-to-find searchable website. These are meant for residents, not insiders.

The 16-member committee represents the full community: elementary, middle, and high school parents, classified and certified employee representatives, a City of Culver City representative, and at-large community members. All must be Culver City residents.

Most importantly, the District does not appoint this committee. Employee representatives are selected by their own unions. Every other member is chosen by random lot from a public applicant pool, drawn openly. No one in district administration decides who sits on this committee.

Planning before spending. Oversight after spending. Public accountability throughout.

Want to help get this school funding measure on the ballot, without working a booth or talking to strangers?

Use our Volunteer in a Box guide to collect signatures from people you already know: neighbors, friends, family, teammates, classmates, co-workers, and fellow Culver City voters.

Here’s how it works:

1. Get the packet or print it at home
2. Ask registered Culver City voters you know to sign
3. Make sure they fill out all required fields clearly
4. Return completed sheets so we can count them toward the 4,000 signatures needed

Important printing note: Pages 9 and 10 must be printed front and back on one sheet.

The link is in the pinned comment and in our bio.

When you’re done, email [email protected] and we’ll coordinate pickup or return of completed signature sheets.

Every sheet matters. Every signature gets us closer to putting this on the ballot.

Together, we can fund our future.

We are getting closer to the finish line, but we still need your help.

If you haven’t signed yet, now is the time. Signing the petition does not raise taxes today. It simply helps put the measure on the ballot so Culver City voters can decide.

If you already signed, please share this post with a neighbor, friend, or fellow CCUSD family.
