This Memorial Day, we reflect with gratitude on the sacrifices made for the freedoms we enjoy and the ways we honor the men and women who have served in our community.

The Culpeper was privileged to host the Rotary Club of Culpeper’s 4th Annual Flags for Heroes, recognizing the service and sacrifice of more than 200 local heroes whose flags now wave proudly across our grounds.

We extend our sincere thanks to keynote speaker, Veteran, Rotarian, and published author Robert “Bob” Shade for sharing meaningful remarks, and to the Stallion Singers from Yowell Elementary School for their musical performances. From the presentation of the colors to the reading of names and Taps, each moment served as a powerful reminder of the freedoms we honor today.

Thank you to the Rotary Club of Culpeper, volunteers, and generous sponsors who make this tribute possible each year. We are proud to continue honoring these heroes through these flags, and we're proud to call Culpeper and the United States our home.

**FLAGS FOR HEROES PROGRAM TODAY**

Flags for Heroes today at The Culpeper

The Rotary Club of Culpeper is hosting a Flags for Heroes program starting at 5 p.m. today, May 19, on the back lawn of The Culpeper retirement village, 12425 Village Loop in Culpeper.

American flags are placed in honor of sponsored heroes, and they will be named at the ceremony. The keynote speaker will be Robert J. Shade, U.S. Navy Retired. Attendees should use the Route 299 entrance for parking. There will plenty of ice and water at the 45-minute program and shuttles to the site.

The flags, visible from James Madison Highway, will be displayed in the prominent location through June 18.

Yesterday at The Culpeper, we gathered to celebrate the people who make a difference in our community! 💙

Our Influencer Award and Volunteer Celebration, sponsored by ColonialWebb, a CSUSA Company and Comfort Systems USA Shoffner, honored the incredible impact made by residents who lead through service and heart.

We were proud to recognize Vince Skrinak as this year’s Influencer. The Virginia Baptist Homes Foundation Influencer Award recognizes a champion at each LifeSpire community who creates a positive impact by living out our values. From welcoming new team neighbors and encouraging team members to honoring our nation through 23 years of service, Vince is humble and steadfast, and it was our pleasure to honor him.

We also celebrated the many volunteers who show up day after day to support, uplift, and care for one another. Your generosity is the heartbeat of The Culpeper, and we are deeply grateful!

Congratulations, Vince, and thank you to all who make our community such a special place.

Happy 80th Anniversary to LifeSpire of Virginia and Virginia Baptist Homes!

More than 80 years ago, Dr. J.T. Edwards, Pastor of Culpeper Baptist Church, stood before Baptists in Virginia to present a question: "What are we doing to care for the aging adults in our communities?"

That question inspired the incorporation of Virginia Baptist Homes on March 25, 1946. It would grow into communities across the Commonwealth: The Culpeper, The Chesapeake Retirement Community, Lakewood Retirement Community, The Glebe Retirement Community , and most recently, The Summit in Lynchburg. It would expand to care at home through our program AgeSmart.

Today, his question is answered through LifeSpire of Virginia and our mission to empower individuals with choices in purposeful living, supported by the Virginia Baptist Homes Foundation, to continue his promise to provide for aging adults
