From here on, we are partnering with Catamount Beeper as a transportation service for our events in efforts to retain the safety of the Catamounts at WCU.

Every day, 29 people in the United States die in motor vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver. This is 1 death every 50 minutes, accounting for 28% of all traffic-related deaths in the US (NHTSA, 2016). Additionally, the NHTSA (2021) recently addressed more than 10,000 people in the US lost their lives to crashes involving an alcohol-impaired driver in 2019. These cases displayed a 3.3 times higher rate of incidence at night than during the day.
In North Carolina, 3,848 people were killed in crashes that involved an alcohol-impaired driver during 2009-2018 (CDC). When looking at the terms of population in towns or cities across NC, the highest percentage of total crashes that are alcohol-related is held by Waynesville, at 6.16% (Farrin, 2020).

Aside from the statistics of DUI’ or DWI’s, the information above signifies the lives lost to something 100% preventable. However, according to the CDC, alcohol-impaired drivers got behind the wheel nearly 147 million times in 2018.

Every day, we’re thankful for the people who surround us at WCU. The students, staff members, husbands & wives, fathers & mothers, sons & daughters, brothers & sisters, along with many others who reside with us in Cullowhee, NC. Events hosted by the Zeta Xi Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha value the lives of those who attend, along with the cost of their attendance. We ask If you choose to join us at any of our events, consider the safety of transportation for yourself and others.
To our brothers of PIKE, hold each other as accountable assets to the community around us and take responsibility for ensuring its safety.

Catamount Beeper services are not limited to our events. Regardless of your evening decisions, we ask you to consider their services.

Everyone meet Kevin!

Kevin’s expects to graduate this semester of 2022! His major in a Bachelors in Construction Management and a minor in Business. From Asheboro, NC, he served as our first treasurer when we were a colony for two terms. When we asked “Why Pike?”, this is what he had to say,

“I rushed Pike because they had the most best men on campus, while at the same time I had found a group of guys that shared the same values I had ... Scholars, Leaders, Athletes, and Gentlemen (SLAG). I knew that Pike would not only provide me with life long friendships but would also help me develop my professional skills along the way.”

Kevin we can’t wait to see what your life ahead holds! We’ve been blessed to have Kevin as a brother of this fraternity and can’t be thankful enough for his involvement. He mentioned his favorite memory with us has been, “getting rough and rowdy at the socials we held at 9 Lives.” No lie, those were great times… 👌

🤝 Pike U 📍ATL

This past weekend we had the pleasure of sending 9 of our brothers as well as 1 of our new members to Pike University in Atlanta Georgia. They were able to meet lots of other brothers from all over the country and learn new things from the many speakers who attended. Great things to come!

Everyone meet Casey!

He’s from Morganton, NC, graduating this summer of 22’ with a Major in Criminal Justice! When we asked Him, “Why Pike”, he had this to say:

"I transferred up to Western and I lived with
two of my friends that were in Pike. After meeting a few of the other pikes, I knew it was an organization that I should be apart of. Not only are they able to hold me accountable, but also they are a great group of friends that I am able to call my brothers. I am extremely proud to be able to take part in this organization and I would not have it any other way”

Each of us will miss you when you graduate this summer. However we look forward to seeing what the future holds for you and any way we can support you!

Yesterday afternoon we learned that one of our brothers, Bob “Jock” Barber, passed away.
Bob was a representation of what a true Pike is and lived the ideals of Pi Kappa Alpha each and every day. As an extremely active member of our alumni base here at the Zeta Xi chapter Bob left a lasting impression on each of us and motivated us to strive for better in everything that we do. Someone willing to help anyone that needed it, Bob shared his time and experience to help found and grow our Alumni Association and to bring the Zeta Xi chapter back onto campus. Brother Bob, without your passion and love for the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and all of the men who are part of it we wouldn’t be here today. Your presence and enthusiasm will be dearly missed and you will always have a place in both our hearts and minds. In Phi Phi K A brother, we love and miss you.
