US Coast Guard Aux. Flotilla 8-11, North Alabama

US Coast Guard Aux. Flotilla 8-11, North Alabama The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary was established by Congress in 1939 to assist the Coast Guard in promoting boating safety.

It includes more than 30,000 members who receive special training so that they may be a functional part of Team Coast Guard. Auxiliarists assist the Coast Guard in non-law enforcement programs such as public education, vessel safety checks, safety patrols, search and rescue, maritime security, environmental protection and Coast Guard Academy introduction programs for youth. Auxiliarists volunteer more than 2 million hours annually to benefit other boaters and their families.

The time has come to rebuild our activities in the Smith Lake and Black Warrior River areas. The last few years we have worked other areas. I'm looking for 12 civilian volunteers interested in wearing the Official Coast Guard uniform and supporting the Coast Guard on our back yard. We will be at the Veterans Parade on the water at Duncan Bridge this Saturday. Message for more details.

We are deeply saddened to share that earlier today, a Civil Air Patrol Cessna 182 crashed in Larimer County, Colo., while participating in a search and rescue training exercise. There was one survivor and two fatalities.

CAP will cooperate fully with the NTSB in the investigation. We are grateful for the outpouring of support from our members, communities, and partners, during this difficult time.

Veterans Day, observed on November 11th, honors all U.S. military veterans for their service and sacrifices. It originated as Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I in 1918, but later expanded to recognize veterans from all wars. Ceremonies, parades, and moments of silence are held across the nation to express gratitude for the courage and dedication of those who served.

Thank you to all who served our nation.

🎃 Happy Halloween from the National Safe Boating Council! 🎃

Whether you're paddling through spooky waters or anchoring for a dockside party, remember that safety is always in season. 👻 Make sure to keep these tips in mind if you’re out on the water tonight:

🦺 Wear your life jacket—it’s the perfect costume accessory! 💡 Bring plenty of lights and flashlights to stay visible in low light. 🍬 Avoid any “witches’ brews” if you’re behind the wheel. 🧛 Stay alert and keep an eye out for any ghostly guests (and other boaters)!

Have a safe and fun Halloween night! 🎃
