"Why should you consider a bearded dragon for a pet?"
Beardies make great pets for many different reasons. They have a docile nature, they're low maintenance and they have a pretty unique appearance, ranging in colors and textures.
They're social creatures and love spending time with their humans. Mine love to come hang out with me and watch TV.
This one pictured is Leo. He's a citrus yellow. He was a rescue. He ended up at a local pet store because the previous owners claimed he was aggressive and they didn't have time to work with him. After taking a week discussing him with my husband, we finally agreed to bring him home with us. There wasn't a mean bone in Leo's body. He was agitated for sure. Being housed in a smaller enclosure at the pet store, not having enough UVA and UVB's, and having a basic diet of crickets. The employee at the pet store said he wouldn't eat salads, however shortly after we brought him home, I was having a salad and set it down to do something else. I came back to my dish to find Leo eating all my lettuce and carrots. Some beardies are pickier than others. Experimenting with different fruits like apples, bananas or blueberries and different veggies like carrots and peas, will give your buddy a chance to see what he likes and doesn't like.
What Leo needed at that point was some TLC. He needed attention and devoted time, as with any animal. Once he had some time to adjust to his new and surroundings, he preferred to be wherever we were.
Beardies will bond with you just like any other animal. Patience and time is the key.
