Congratulations are in order for Mady D’Espies! Last week, Mady successfully defended her MS Thesis at University of Florida/UF College of Veterinary Medicine. Mady studied how a small group of dolphins foraged off of nighttime fishing vessels, documenting her findings in “A Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis of a Specialized Nocturnal Foraging Tactic in Crystal River, Florida Bottlenose Dolphins.” Congratulations, Mady!

The summer field season started this week with a nighttime survey on ’s boat! Two dolphins joined us at sunset and the group grew to eight individuals. The CKDP’s long term studies always document individual dolphins, their behaviors, their social interactions, and foraging habits. On top of that, this year we’re continuing our health-related and acoustics research projects.
