McHenry County Storytelling Guild

McHenry County Storytelling Guild Beginning storytellers to experienced professionals, come share your love of storytelling together. Friends and story listeners are also welcome.

The McHenry County Storytelling Guild has been in existence since 1984. The guild is open to Storytellers of all skill levels from beginner to professionals. Story listeners and guests are also welcome. The Guild meets at the McHenry County College (see details below) Our current agreement with the College provides us use of a classroom in exchange for student involvement, community services and

storytelling events through the year. We currently do two events per year – Stories for a Spring Evening, and Tellebration Celebration – several of our tellers also volunteer their time at educational programs for the McHenry County Conservation District. Guild meetings are very informal. After a brief few minutes of business, we basically enjoy telling and hearing each other’s stories. If you are a beginner or an experienced teller trying out a new story, the guild provides a safe, non-judgmental place to share and practice your craft. Feedback will be given only as requested. The McHenry County Storytelling Guild meets 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7pm

It's February, and love is in the air! All kinds of love--for parents, children, spouse, neighbors, friends, pets! So in honor of love, we invite you to bring your best love stories to our next meeting February 18th, at 7:00. We meet at Panera in Crystal Lake on Highway 14. Or bring any story you have. I know it's a night to be with your sweetie, so bring them along! We've had some fabulous storytelling the last few meetings, let's keep the momentum going!

We look forward to seeing you!

Dear Guild members and guests,

Just a reminder about our meeting this Tuesday, the 21st, at Panera.

It's pretty darn cold out there! Maybe you have a story about the cold! Gathering together to share our stories would be experiencing hygge.

What is a Hygge lifestyle?
"Pronounced "hoo-ga," this Danish concept cannot be translated to one single word but encompasses a feeling of cozy contentment and well-being through enjoying the simple things in life. ..." Other northern countries like Norway and Sweden have adopted this lovely tradition. It's sitting around a cozy fire with a cup of hot tea, coffee or cocoa (or maybe a hot toddy!) , with a group of friends on a cold winter's night sharing stories, swapping lies, and playing games. It's good for community and good for our health. So come grab a hot drink on Tuesday night, and come share and listen to wonderful stories that will warm our hearts! ❤️

Where has the time gone??? I thought I had an extra week before we met, but I DON"T! Yikes! We are looking forward to seeing you for our holiday get together this next Tuesday, December 17th, 7:00 at Panera on Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake.

We had a great meeting last time with excellent stories and Native American flute demonstrations. It was devine!!

In the past, we would bring treats to our Holiday party, but since we meet at Panera, that would be frowned upon, so there will be treats from Panera. It was suggested that in lieu of treats, people could bring canned goods, etc., for the food pantry--absolutely your choice.

Now for the stories. As a suggestion, we could either share our favorite holiday story, or we could share a favorite Holiday memory.

We certainly hope to see you all there, but we understand that it's a very busy time. Please let me know if you plan to attend or if you can't be there. It's very important that I hear from you one way or another. In fact, I suggest that you respond immediately when you finish this email, so you don't forget! :) Thank you!

May you all have a blessed holiday season, however you celebrate!
